Yes, I understand that the 8 speed transmission keeps the RPMs pretty low, in normal driving, but the engine still has to work a little, to move that "brick" down the road. While the factories may be running scared from the EPA, and their fuel mileage regulations, I'm primarily interested in the longevity of my engine!

As a side note, what REALLY has me scratching my head, is the factory recommendation of motor oil, for my wife's 5.0 liter V-8 Jaguar......a special blend of 0W-20 Castrol.

Re: Whats your choice of oil for your WK2?

The way I see it, Chrysler Jeep engineers have better knowledge of what they've designed, along with what is required to lubricate it, than us guys on a forum do. So I'll stick to their recommendation of 5W-20. I still think because of past engines and vehicles I've owned, 5W-30 would be "better".

Re: Whats your choice of oil for your WK2?

^^^ - Pretty sure the main reason 5w-20 is recommended for the hemi has something to do with MDS operation. I use AMSOIL Signature 5w-20 full synthetic for my copy.

0w-20 and 5w-20 are exactly the same you guys need to chill been using 0w20 since day one and not one mds issue even my local dealer recommended it. Outside temps here range from 0-45deg uploadfromtaptalk1457076519624.jpg

You keep trying to argue this. Most of us here are wondering about needing more viscosity.... Not less. If we are questioning enough viscosity using 5W-20, why would we want to switch to 0W-20? And besides that, why would anyone want to use 0W-20 in hot desert temperatures that can exceed 115F?

I don't use Mopar oil either. In fact, I've never seen it for sale. I buy 5 quarts of Pennzoil 5W-20 Full Synthetic for just $24.97 at Wal-Mart. That's only $4.99 a quart. It meets the Chrysler MS-6395 spec.

Pennzoil 5W20 Full Synthetic Platinum Motor Oil, 5 qt - Walmart.com

Very true, but "nicjak", according to his information column, appears to live in Australia. Might be a long drive to "WallyWorld".........

Use AMSOIL signature series 5w20 and my hemi runs smooth.

"Exactly the same" im sure 5w20 and 0w20 are not exactly the same. There is not a drastic difference but there is a difference as there is not a drastic difference between 5w30 and 5w20 but there is a difference. Different situations warrant different things. If 5w20 was not available and 0w20 and 5w30 were. If i were towing in the 120 degree desert id take 5w30. If i were in the artic circle at -40 degrees 0w20 would be a better choice. Im sure all three will get you by but some are more ideal than others depending on your situation.
