Re: Whats your choice of oil for your WK2?

I see everyone is all over the place on oil thickness. What is the reason for not going with Jeep recommended 5 W 30? What is the Advantages? Would that void a
Certified Jeep extended warranty?

Thanks everyone for your replies so far.

My 2013, Jeep Users Guide under Fluids and Capaciies(pg 123) says for the 5.7L engine to "use API Certified 5W-20 engine oil". Capacity: 7 Quarts.

Re: Whats your choice of oil for your WK2?

Yes, the V8 specifies the 5W-20 for the MDS system to work properly. 5W-30 is usually recommended to provide good cold starting lubrication and good fuel economy. LOTS of opinions (and previous discussions) on this.

Okay, thanks.

They changed in the 2013s.

Also the label 5W20 is a rather crude summary of the oils behavior.

The "Spec" is more critical and specific. As long as it meets Chrysler Spec you should be ok.

It also depends where you live if you are in a much hotter or cool climate.

Viscosity also changes a bit as the oil ages. Sometimes a lot.

I have used Mobile1 on many vehicles but I won't use it on my Jeep because it does not meet Chrysler spec. And there are plenty of other good oils that do.

Re: Whats your choice of oil for your WK2?

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20 Full Synthetic from Amazon.

I plan on keeping my Jeep for at least 10 years. Plus, with 8,500 to 10,000 mile oil changes, stop and go traffic, and the cold winters we have in New England it makes sense to me to use a bit higher quality oil.

I've also been sending my oil in to Blackstone for analysis. So far, the oil holds up really well. I've been averaging about 8500 miles between oil changes and they say that I should be able to go to 10,000 without any problems.
