Pennzoil

Bought 18 quarts and 2 filters on Amazon for $225 I believe. I only have 3k miles now, but this should do me up until the 30k change. I do plan on performing UOA with Blackstone just to confirm my AFE air filter is sufficient.

Re: Whats your choice of oil for your WK2?

My dealer provides "free oil changes", at least for some portion of ownership, so I'll take advantage of it. Secondly, I don't anticipate putting on more than 4-5 thousand miles per year, so by letting them take care of it, I fulfill the factory's recommendation on oil changes of 6000 miles or once a year. Also, I will then have a documented service stop on record.

However, since I also believe in preventive maintenance, I've ALWAYS given my new cars their first change at 500 miles. I saw no reason to change this practice with my GC (5.7 liter), so I changed the oil at 500 miles, and poured in 7 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20, and screwed on a K&N filter....

That would be 10,000 miles or once a year... ...unless you're running a taxi service, etc.

Re: Whats your choice of oil for your WK2?

Once my 4 free oil changes at the dealership were up, I switched to Castrol Edge 5w30 Full syn. I use Mobil 1 on my other vehicles but I didn't see Mobil 1 in the FCA approved list. My 2012 WK2 is a 3.6 engine and I first changed it at 5k miles and sent the oil for UOA. Report told me to run it longer. So, I changed it at 7500 miles and sent it for UOA again. Report told me to run it longer. LOL. But, I will stick to a max of 7500 miles/6 months. Cheap insurance.

OK, I didn't reference the owners manual before posting. I remembered the "once a year" portion of it, because of my low anticipated usage.

Prior to the CG, I had a 2005 GMC Canyon 4x4. I owned it 10 years, and when I traded it on the Jeep, it had 42,000 miles on the clock. So if my usage of the GC remains on par with the Canyon, the actual change interval will be around 4-5000 miles. Well within the accepted factory recommendation.

One thing I will add...the oil filter location on the hemi is a tad awkward. The hex nut attached to the end of the K&N filter helps the installation/removal.

This is too funny. Letter for letter this is EXACTLY what I did as well.

Except I didn't trust the dealer to do ANY oil changes. Cheap insurance

Ha ha! Yes, I do my own oil changes as well. Just took it to them for the free ones.

I recently did the transfer case and diff oil changes myself and the service adviser at the dealership told me to remove the front diff cover completely and clean it before refilling. I told him that on the GC's you don't need to do that... but refused to listen to me and said that that's how they do at the dealership! LOL.

Re: Whats your choice of oil for your WK2?

What oils other than Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic (5W-20), meets Chrysler's MS-6395 spec for a 2015, 5.7 HEMI?

They don't recommend 0W-20. It specifically states 5W-20 right on the fill cap. I'm talking about oils that meet BOTH the viscosity and API Chrysler spec.
