Re: When to change oil

I change mine in my 06 Durango 5.7 in the spring and right before winter. I put about 16,000 miles on a year so i gets its around 8,000 between each oil change.

This is one of my major questions as I am going to buy a 2017 GC or even possibly a Challenger Scat Pack depending on if i feel my 06 Durango will make it another 5 years to get me through the winters. I'd like to keep oil changes down to a minimum obviously unless needed and whatever will keep me within warrenty specs coverage.

If something goes wrong in 2 years i dont want the dealer saying "well you only changed your oil every 8,000 miles so your not covered"

If you comply with the manufacturer's manual, they have no legal basis to say that. Save your receipts for proof of oil changes within the manual's limits and you're golden.

Re: When to change oil

I would just stick with what the manual calls out like mentioned in the second post. My JGC has hit nearly 52K and I have only followed the oil change requirements based on the manual. Typically that is around the 8-8.5K mark.

In my case, I end up with 12 months, first! I run Castrol Syntec & it still looked pretty good!
