WK2 3.6 l V6 Decrease in mpg.

I got my WK2 with a 3.6 L V6 engine at the end of September. I noticed that my mpg has decreased by 2 mpg at the end of November and in December. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this observation. I drive in Northern California.

Re: WK2 3.6 l V6 Decrease in mpg.

I'm not from up north, but from what i hear, in the winter they use a different blend of gas, and the MPG is usually lower than the spring/summer/fall blend

Re: WK2 3.6 l V6 Decrease in mpg.

It is because of winter gas. Happens every year.

Re: WK2 3.6 l V6 Decrease in mpg.

yup, it's the winter gas. All of my vehicles within the past 8yrs have done the same. I couldn't ever do better then 17/18mpg with our tahoe from nov-feb, but come march it would shoot back up near 20mpg (hwy)

I'll agree with that. I am in the Boston area and have similar results. Just the blend of fuel.

What is in winter gasoline to cause a decrease in mpg?

It is just a different blend. The high temperatures of summer require a higher quality fuel for emissions purposes and with the colder temps with winter we get a fuel that isn't as "potent" as the summer blends. Generally they'll increase the ethanol content.
