Would an srt tranny work behind a v6-3.6l

I'm quickly approaching the end of life on my v6 8speed tranny and need to find a stronger option

Does anyone know if an srt transmission would be able to be mated to my v6?

Or has anyone heard of an upgrade to strengthen the v6 tranny?

Re: Would an srt tranny work behind a v6-3.6l

My 2012 3.6 came with the 5 speed SRT trans already (W5A580), but as far as swapping a beefier model trans in I don't see it possible. I think your best option would be to have a shop build up the trans you have. I think GMGC was having one done actually... Why do you think yours is on the way out?

Let me know it you want to trade intercooler sand injectors!

Re: Would an srt tranny work behind a v6-3.6l

I was just texting with gmgc as the stage 2 kit I now have was his

He looked into doing the trans but ended up removing the supercharger so he doesn't need a new tranny now

Mine feels like it's getting a little sloppy now..but I am pushing over 400hp to the wheels now..today I upped the boost to 14lbs so I'm prob pushing like 450+ hp to the wheels

I'm just trying to plan for a replacement when this one blows

Might be able to make it better with the torque management.... But chances are you answered your question on how much power the stock 8 spd trans can take...

you can get a built NAG1(W5A580) From SHR or Paramount for about $2500-$4500. Or a new ZF 8 Speed war viking

I can guarantee you won't tear those up

450+ hp to the wheels that is some good power. so what do you estimate that is at the crank like 550? what kind of torque are you producing? Have you done any 0-60 times? you have a nice setup there, I do agree with you on the 845RE trans it probably wont take that kind of power long term. you could probably open the fill plug on the trans and see if you could get a small sample of fluid just to see if its jet black and chunky or if its still reasonably ok. But getting someone to build it out stronger like someone above suggested is probably your best bet, then they can upgrade it to match up with the power you are producing.

Would these be direct replacements for the stock 8speed I have?

I wouldn't mind spending the money if it meant it would be strong and reliable

Thanks

As for 0-60 times ..I haven't tested that since I upgraded to the stage 2..I was pulling a 4.6 with 330whp (stage 1)so I'm guessing I'm low 4's or less now

I have a dyno day scheduled on Saturday so I'll have actual dyno numbers and torque numbers on stage 2 after that

If you bought a Stock ZF HP80 or 90. IE if you bought one that is behind a STOCK SRT yes. Switching from the 8speed to the 5 speed is not going to happen. You could buy Built ZF from SHR for about 5k but better send your core in unless you got 8k to spend a WHOLE new trans first.
