17" wheels on a hemi overland?

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum but have been reading alot about wheels and tires lately as I want to make my new overland a bit more offroad oriented vs the 20s and goodyear forteras it came with. Discount tire told me today a 17" wheel would fit my hemi overland, but everything on this forum says it might be to small to fit over the large calipers. Should I let discount tire do a test fit to see if it's even possible, or should I stick to what I know and trust from the research done on this forum and look only at 18s? Thanks for the valuable information thus far.

First of all welcome!

And, good first post. I would be hesitant to order a 17" rim on my dime without knowing for sure. Now, if a local tire/rim shop wants to try a test fit, no purchase required and limited downtime then I say do it. It can't hurt and it's more data for the forum.

But, I wouldn't be suprised if it doesn't fit as we've been told a 17" rim wont clear.

So, you have an Overland with the 20s and are looking to get the 18's for more of an off-road tire...
Not sure if you plan to keep the 20s and have two sets of wheels or maybe it is a lease so you need to keep the 20s but there are many members, myself included, who have the non-polished and polished 18's that are looking for the Overland 20s.

My point, if you like the look of the polished/unpolished OEM wheels you could always do a straight swap or a swap and cash with a member.

Yeah, I might try to see if they will do a test fit of the 17"s without any real expectations. They were pretty confident, but as you all said as well I am not.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to go with gloss black/chrome wheels and sell the 20's, stock 18's and trade the 20's, or keep the 20's and get a cheap set up steelies for offroad only. I like the look of the 20's, but the tire and low profile take away from it being an offroad jeep in my book.

I'll keep you all informed and appreciate the info/options/offers of stock 18's.

Thanks!

I am not sure if your calipers are larger than mine since you have an overland and I have a Laredo? Here is a picture of my stock 17's on my Laredo, if I was on the mainland I would swap my 17's for your 20's plus cash. Let me know if you or anyone else wants to sell their set of 20's. 2011 overland 20's that is.

In that case the stock jeep 17's from a 2011 4x4 Laredo probably won't work on the overland hemi. There is less than half an inch of space between my rim and the caliper on mine.

It has to do with the brakes that come with a given powertrain, not a trim level. I have a V6 Overland, and I have the "regular" brakes, and in theory, 17" rims should fit. With the Hemi, you get "heavy duty" brakes (additional weight of engine, higher tow rating, etc.), and those are just too big for 17" rims to fit.
