Re: 20" Overland Tire Choice for quadralift

I had my Terra Grapplers mounted on my Overland yesterday. They look really cool. However, the verdict is still out as for noise and ride. I have not had it on the highway yet. They may also be over-inflated which most shops are notorious for. I need to check the tire pressure cold in the morning and do some highway driving.

Other forum members have told me they are pretty quiet with only a slight increase in noise. I'm not so sure. There's really no way they can not be as quiet with the aggressive tread blocking. I'm hoping they are over inflated and that will soften things.

I can say that at the stock size of 265/50/20 the tires seemed a little taller and wider then the Goodyears and am guessing are probably heavier. Braking seems a little affected / longer to stop now......maybe psychological.

Touch base with me next week and I should have a good sense if I'm going to remove them, run for winter only or keep on all year which was my hope.

Any updates? How did it affect MPG? Thanks!

Re: 20" Overland Tire Choice for quadralift

Danco,

The tires were over inflated by about 2 + lbs each tire. Aired them down to 36 just this morning and it is an improvement. (I went walleye fishing yesterday morning and forgot to do it)

The are a little quieter and softer then at 38lbs psi. They are a harder / stiffer tire than the stock Goodyears though. Things were vibrating and rattling at the higher psi and less now. (annoying)

I need a few more days and to run them at 70 - 75 mph on the highway now that they have less air to decide.

I will say that I considered my 2011 Overland Hemi w/ quadralift a luxury suv with offroad capability. The ride is less luxury-like with these tires. They are heavier and slower (braking and accelerating) but a lot tougher and capable. It's a shame they put a 20" on them to begin with. The car rode hard to begin with even with the Goodyears ( you feel everything with a 50 profile tire). I live in the Northeast and the roads are not that good so it was always on a rougher side and more so now.

They do kick up more debris, dirt and stones onto the lower body. (treads probably self-clean well)

Improved but verdict still out. I do a lot of 3-4 hr road trips and not sure I'll like these.

Give me 3 -4 more days.

Thanks

Thanks for the update! Not sure this is the right tire for me...I do mostly highway/city driving. I wish there were more options in the OEM 20" size.

Most of those are not even available for the 20" wheel for Jeep.

Re: 20" Overland Tire Choice for quadralift

SRA was horrible on the 2 vehicles we had...28k miles and changed them out. Maybe look at Nitto Dura Grappler if you're going to do more highway. I believe there are 2 tread patterns, one for LT and one for P ratings. My terra grapplers were pretty quiet right up till the last 5k miles or so, and quieter than the Toyo A/T's with a lot of tread left...the Nittos saw landfills, off road, gravel pack roads, highway, steel mills...some hard use. I'm going with Nitto's(and my wife works at Goodyear corporate in Akron), and I'm not getting them to be quiet. I'm getting them for better overall traction, cooler looks, bigger size(275/55/20), and in case wifey gets caught in snow before the blizzaks go on, after they come off...and it's an excuse to get it dirty once and a while. She said, the stock tires suck, we can't even go on a "trail" with those.
