Re: 2012 6 Speed feedback request

One fact that may support different ratios: I believe the 2012 WK2 Hemis are window-sticker rated for an extra MPG over their 2011 equivalents (20 vs 19) on the highway. One must wonder why?

The 2012s V8s don't come equipped with the ELS rear axle, less weight so more mpg ....

It may have more to do with a more efficient torque converter and tweaks.

Re: 2012 6 Speed feedback request

2012 V8

70 mph (+/- 50 rpm)
- 4th = 2150 rpm
- 5th = 2000 rpm
- 6th = 1750 rpm
- D = 1750 rpm

No change between D and 6th

Re: 2012 6 Speed feedback request

Great, thanks for the new confirmed info! So same ratios in 2011 & 2012. Overall, what are your impressions of the tranny (good/bad)?

Re: 2012 6 Speed feedback request

It feels good. I didn't spend tons of time in a 2011 so I don't have much to compare it to. Seems smooth and always kicks down when I need to pass. Sport mode holds the gears nicely up into the higher RPMs and no issues so far.

Re: 2012 6 Speed feedback request

If I'm interpreting everything correctly:

1) 2011's and 2012's have the same exact useable six gear ratios for manual shifting
2) 2011's and 2012's both only use five gears on the way up when not manually shifting (with a different 2nd on the way up and down)
3) 2011's show 1,2,3,4,5,D on the dash (all of which have different ratios)
4) 2012's show 1,2,3,4,5,6,D (but D&6 are the same gear)

Basically everything is identical except that on 2012's when at highway speed the first manual downshift does nothing other than show a "6" instead of a "5" ?

If that's the case, I prefer my 2011, I want the car to downshift when I downshift without having to do it twice.

Am I missing something ?

Re: 2012 6 Speed feedback request

Nope. Only difference is possibly a new torque converter yet the HEMI price increased by $200 on the Overlands and the ELSD and QDII were removed from the Overland V8 and require the purchase of the increased $995 Off Road Adventure Group II package unless you're ordering a Summit. Gotta love it

For #2, I am not so sure the 2012, and possibly TSB'd 2011s, don't use all 6 gears while in auto mode. Why would they use 5 in auto mode when 6 are available in manual mode, unless it is less efficient, which would not make sense.

Re: 2012 6 Speed feedback request

Just to update, my May 2011 build V8 with the updated 5 speed was going up a approx. 15 degree grade and at approx. 60 mph and when I tapped the gear lever to the left from D to 5. The transmission kicked down a gear. So the updated 5 speed acts like a 6 speed.

Given that the Mopar parts catalog shows the same part numbers for the internals, I am glad I ended up buying the 2011 with ELSD and Quadra Drive II, rather than the 2012 Overland with Quadra Trac II.
