Question 2012 WK2 - Which Rims (self leveling shocks) HELP???

Afternoon folks,

Okay I need some help....I recently purchased a 2012 Laredo with the Hemi and it came with 18" rims. The Jeep has the towing package with self leveling shocks...so the rear sits up a little higher. I know I want to get a set of SRT reps but I can't decide if 22" are worth it compared to 20". So here are my options:
  1. 20" SRT (gloss black) from OEWheels
  2. 22" SRT (gloss black) from Factory Reproductions

The overall $$$ difference is around $500 (includes shipping, TPMS sensors, etc...). One of my main concerns is the gap the new set of tires/rims may leave in the rear....that's one of the primary reasons I was considering the 22"....but every set of 20's I've seen on the forum and in person look great. What do you guys think? Which way should I go? Could I solve the gap problem by getting a different tire on the 20" rim? Help a new member out!

What do you mean by gap? Between the tire and fender well? If so you need to look at tire diameter, not wheel diameter. 4WD or 2WD? If 4WD you want all the tires to be the same diameter, and there is just so much rubber you can stick under there regardless of rim size. As far as look, that is subjective, personally I'd like the 18s better than the 22s on a WK2... 20s being optimum but not by much... but that's just me. You need to do what looks good to you.

The gap between the tire and fender well is what I was talking about. I have the 2wd with the towing package so the jeep has a rake look. I like the way the 22" look on the wk2 but not sure I can justify the price difference from 20".

As I understand things...
The 2wd GCs with tow package do not have the load-leveling rear struts.

I saw another GC yesterday and it seemed like his was higher in the rear, so I'm guessing he didn't have the factory tow package.

I have the factory tow package and mine sits fairly level.

My jeep definitely has the load leveling shocks. I really hate to Remove them for the eibach springs...but the extra "gap" is ugly

Re: 2012 WK2 - Which Rims (self leveling shocks) HELP???

That is interesting, all of the 2012 literature said the 4x2 did not get the load levellers, only the 4x4s. I was surprised and checked with Jeep but they verified. I'd be interested to see the option list (factory will e-mail you a copy).

BTW the whole mount is apparently different with the LLs it is not just a shock swap.

I thought you have to have Tow Package to have road leveling shocks.

To address OP question, larger tires will fill the wheel wells better than just increasing wheel size.

Heres a pic of the window sticker....it has the tow package IV with load leveling shocks (4th line under the tow package section)....

I have load leveling shocks on my 2012 4x2 v8 Altitude too. I guess all the literature was wrong.

Re: 2012 WK2 - Which Rims (self leveling shocks) HELP???

Isn't there like two different tow packages, for 2013:

The Trailer Tow Group (V-6) only)
Includes rear load-leveling suspension (not available with 4x2 or Quadra-Lift air suspension system), full-size spare tire, steel spare wheel, Class IV receiver hitch with seven- and four-pin wiring harness

The Trailer Tow Group IV (V-8 only)
Includes heavy-duty engine cooling, engine oil cooler, 220-amp alternator, rear load-leveling suspension (not available with Quadra- Lift air suspension system), full-size spare tire, steel spare wheel, Class IV receiver hitch with seven- and four-pin wiring harness.

So it looks like the V6 4x2 should not have the load leveling shocks but the V8 should, unless its superseded by the QL. Other years may vary.
