2013 GC Rust.....Jeez!

I have a 1 year old GC Overland with 15k miles. I have never taken this one off road. The other day I was washing underneath at the car wash and couldn't believe how much rust was on the front suspension parts.

I brought it home, put each front wheel on a jack-stand, one at a time and cleaned everything with all purpose cleaner, used some steel wool and sanding tools to clean up the control arms and various parts that had a little rust.

I know it's probably not a big deal, as the parts aren't going to rust through, but this is the first automobile that I have owned in 30 years (25 cars) that has rust underneath that looks like an old heap that came out of a junkyard from the 30's.

I did order some Eastwood Chassis black in satin, and used that to repaint some of the chassis parts that I cleaned up. No, I don't work for them. You all have this much rust?

Some pics-

Ever since they started spraying that brine mix on the highways before a snow storm i noticed an increase in rust.Driveing in that mix before the snow has time to delute is the worst.I replaced all the brake lines on my ram plow truck in stainless steel.

Wow that's some bad rust for a car 1yr old ? And in all my years with different cars never seen rust happen so fast in so little time of ownership of a car and I live right next to beaches with a lot of salty wind blowing..

Re: 2013 GC Rust.....Jeez!

Couple more...What are those 2 square rusty blocks to the left of the right side lower control arm? Look at the crankshaft pulley! I went to the dealer and asked them about it this morning. He said "we get them from the factory like that" This just doesn't look right to me. I keep my cars immaculate, and this is pissin' me off! I've spent 2 days under there cleaning this up.

Gotta love that response. I'm sure the Jeep was put together like a rusty bucket from the get go...morons.

There's no way that this is normal rusting after such a short period of time. I'd be pissed as well. It can't lead to anything good, that's for sure.

I'll definitely have to agree with you on that. They did use a LOT of brine here last winter. That has to be the reason for this amount of rust, because that's the only water/snow that I have driven in.

I really enjoy my GC, so I'm done looking/cleaning under there.

What's crazy is that my 2014 altitude already has rust with only 400 miles...

I'm assuming it's not a huge deal except for the appearance right?

LOL... looks perfectly normal for any vehicle that sees road salt.

Don't sweat it...

Re: 2013 GC Rust.....Jeez!

I have a 2011 with over 60k and don't have that much rust. I did treat everything on the underside and any metal without paint with Amsoil HD MP a few weeks after picking it up though. So for so good.
