2014 Brake Rotors/Pads

Just turned 54K on my 2014 Overland. Replaced the tires and checked the brakes. Was told I have another 15K before I need brakes, but I am ready to update them anyway.

My last jeep (2005 WK) ate pads and rotors, Tried EBC, HAWK, Cryogenic, EAB, etc. Finally found a set up that work with R1 rotors and thermoquiet pads. Was very happy with that setup. Seemed the more aggressive pads went through rotors quickly (at 150 was on my 5th set of rotors/pads).

Would like to upgrade brake pads but not degrade the great longevity I've had with the Stock 2014 pads and rotors.

Like the look of (drilled or dimpled)/slotted rotors. I thought that R1 had dimpled/slotted in the past. They now have drilled/slotted rotors.

Looking at rotors
R1 - premier series - Drilled/Slotted or Just Slotted
Brakeperfromance.com Dimpled/slotted
Powerstop Z23

Pads - Really like the thermoquiets, but would like to hear other pads, like the idea of ceramics,

they are going on a 2014 Overland with HD brakes. I do some towing (3,000 lb boat). Looking for great looking, good stopping, long life, less brake dust. I'm easy on brakes and tires (got 54K out of forturas, still plenty of brake left at 54K, just starting to get a mild pulse)

What have others been buying.

Re: 2014 Brake Rotors/Pads

Well, whatever you are buying, do not buy Hawk HPS from Tire Rack. It was the wrong product number. I have no idea about Hawk LTS but they are likely variations of the same great pad formulation: less prone to overheating and fading, improved braking performance.

The pads are the same between the Standard Brakes and the HD Brakes. I upgraded a few months back to the HD brakes (front and rears) and Tire Rack sent me the wrong pads for the front. The problem appeared to be a wrong inventory control number as they took the pads back without any issues and extended their apologies.

I ended up using the DuraLast Gold (with high carbon content and coated - they look black but will not stay that way) rotors from Autozone and my old pads since I had another year of life in it.

Can't speak to the others, but I'd stay away from the Powerstop, anyone I've known who bought they warped them. I just replaced my front rotors (warped at 36,100 miles, just out of warranty and was told $450 and no warranty assistance just 100 miles out of warranty) with Centric cryo rotors from TireRack. Have had great luck with them on my big heavy Yukon Denali pulling a 7,000 lb trailer and never warped them. $180 and an hour of my time.
