2014 Grand Cherokee Altitude Cherry Red

Hey There!
Im brand new to Jeep Garage and had a couple questions about this awesome new altitude I bought..
This is a great jeep however I keep hearing that the QT1 isnt going to cut it in the snow.. The only other jeep ive owned was a 97 grand Laredo which was great in everything but that didnt have this QT1..
Can anyone help me with this subject?

QT1 is a fine full time 4WD system and will work fine in snow...your tire choice will have more impact. QT1 doesn't have low-range (desirable for more serious off-road), but it will do just fine for normal winter driving.

Thanks Jim!
Thats what I figured,, Its a JEEP!!!
From the factory it came with Goodyear Fortera tires, Ill see how it does when the snow hits..They look great but more of a low profile tire.. May put on some grabbers

Fortera's are horrible in the snow. Do yourself a favor and swap them out immediately. It's not the profile of the tire but the compound and siphoning designed into the tread to channel the snow away.

I ran the Forteras last winter I my 2014 and they were horrible. Just swapped for Cooper Zeon LTZ. Should be a great improvement.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Altitude Cherry Red

I have the qt1 package on my 2012 and it is more than capable, unless you're going to be climbing black diamond ski slopes or rocks.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Altitude Cherry Red

You will be more than pleased with QT1.
I traded in my Forteras at 150 miles and got a good trade in price for them. It's all about the tires and Forteras are cheap tires.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Altitude Cherry Red

I'm happy with my 2012 QT1. I had reservations at first but I enjoy the better gas mileage and still get what I wanted out of having a Jeep...overland driving to camp/hunt/hike. I never intended to ford rivers or rock crawl and I never used 4Lo in my previous vehicles anyway.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Altitude Cherry Red

I totally agree that QT1 will be efficient. I owned a Liberty for 6 years and put it in 4-Lo only two times. Of those times 1 was just to try it out. I went to Jeep Jamboree in the Blue Ridge Mountain, Michigan Silver Lake Sand Dunes, Mud trails in Northern Michigan, Heavy snow in Michigan and Chicago. Needless to say I enjoy my 14' Altitude and have fun with it since getting it. The best thing to know is how your Jeep works, the feeling in different weather conditions, and just staying vigilant when driving on different terrain or weather.
