2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Shocks leaking

I got two opinions (one being dealer) and it appears my rear shocks already in need of replacement. 39k miles, so must have a bad set. anyhow, i was quoted around 500 bucks for both places, but i have a buddy stating it isn't too hard and he would help. Anyone agree that it isn't too hard to change rear shocks on this model? thanks in advance.

Why are you changing them? They're covered under the powertrain warranty. Have had them replaced twice on my 2011 GC.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Shocks leaking

I think $500.00 is insane for 2 rear shocks. As was mentioned, it should be covered under warranty. If not, price the shocks. Then figure no more than 30 minutes labor per shock. That should give you somewhat of a realistic price. They will add to the price of the parts over what you can get them for. But that shouldn't be anywhere near $500.00 for 2 installed.

Do you live in a cold climate? Back when I lived in Illinois, Winter there was very hard on shocks. In sub zero weather the fluid thickens and the seals harden. The roads there were strewn with potholes during the Winter months. Every bad shock I ever had there, in over 22 years of driving occurred during the Winter.

If you think $500 is a lot try $1700 a piece for the quadra lift ones lol.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Shocks leaking

I think the prices on a lot of this kind of crap is totally insane. I can't believe people pay it. No wonder a full one third of the country is broke! I just replaced the rear shocks on my 1991 Ford F-150 with Gabriel Ultra's...... $110.00 for the pair, and a half hour in the driveway. Drives like when it was new. Goodyear Auto Center quoted me over the phone at $268.00.

Interesting... since when did FCA start covering shocks, which have always been considered a normal wear maintenace item, especially at 39K miles?

I was thinking the same thing. It's not like they failed in 6 months, or in a couple thousand miles.

I would call around and see who is willing to help you. I made one call to my local dealer explained the situation and was told to come down and they would take care of it, no problem. This was on my '08 WK with 43k (about 4years in).

I'm basing what I said on my past personal experience. Guess I got lucky
