Re: 2014 WK2 - Run Flat Tires/No Full Sized Spare

That means $$$$$ for replacements.

I switched from runflats to regular tires on my vette. Drives way better. I had SRT wheels and tires on my old WK. Hit a pot hole and the tire side wall blew out. almost 400 bucks for a new one.

Will RFT be on MY14? I don't feel good about RFT coz that is what my E90 wears.

Hopefully, this is NOT true!! That would render the Trail Ready rating totally ridiculous!
NOT true...

Re: 2014 WK2 - Run Flat Tires/No Full Sized Spare

I was reading some of the information in the User Guide for my 2014 GC Limited, and came across a section about the Run Flat tires on the vehicle. (There is also a spare, although it's not full size.) The tires on my GC Limited are Michelin X-Green Latitude Tour P265/60R18.

It's interesting that the user guide addendum specifies that the spare (not full size) should only be used on the rear. If you have a front tire go flat, you're instructed to first move a rear tire to the front, and then put the small spare on the back... wouldn't that be fun some night in a storm, on a trail, or on the side of a super highway.

Re: 2014 WK2 - Run Flat Tires/No Full Sized Spare

RFT's are very expensive to replace. They can also be repaired similar to normal tires, however not in every way. Tire stores will tell you they can not be fixed. Any guess why??? Oh yeah they want you to buy a $400 tire!!!
Now if you have driven more than a mile or so with the tire deflated it will begin to wear the sidewall and actually ruin the tire. In that case you will need a new tire.

So moral of the story, get a full size spare regardless of which type tires you have and change your flat tire as soon as possible. When you do replace your set of tires, go with Non run-flat, they are about 1/3 the price

I hate run flats....rough ride, short tread life, and as you pointed out, very expensive. Run flats are one of the reasons that I stopped buying BMW's .
