2014 WK2 SRT Snow Tires

Hi Guys,

I wanted to take a moment and post up a big thanks to Chad @BlackOpsAutoworks for helping me out with a snow set up for the Jeep.

I purchased my 2014 SRT with the 3-season tires, and here in Canada they won't do so hot in the winter

I started looking around for snow packages and quickly found myself both confused by the number of options, and blow away by the price...

Long story short, I reached out to Chad for help and he quickly set me straight on what to get and what not to get. His price was fantastic, and his knowledge definitely helped seal the deal.

I needed up buying a set of 20" replicas with 275/45/20 blizzack tires for the SRT. I don't have the tires and rims yet, but will definitely post up some pictures once they arrive.

My SRT is white, and I decided to go with the grey replicas for the snows.

Should be a fun winter here in Canada

Steve

Re: 2014 WK2 SRT Snow Tires

Did you check out any other winter tire options for the Canadian winter.

You could have made a better winter tire choice than the Blizacks. I ran Bilzacks years ago until I discovered Nokian's winter tire lineup. They are unparalleled in the snow and ice and last much longer than the Bilzacks which wore too fast on dry pavement. This lead to them losing their grip after about 15K miles. Nokian invented winter tires in the 1930's and today hold more winter tire patents than all the other tire manufacturers combined! Many forum members run them with excellent results.

Re: 2014 WK2 SRT Snow Tires

Greetings,

I agree as well that Nokian is a better tire for the winter. Even through Bridgestone does own a stake in Nokian, they do not use all of Nokian's technology. The combination of the tire compound, studs (if applicable), siping and shoulder blocks give Nokian a tremendous advantage.

Believe it or not, GY Duratrac in the LT sizes allow for studs as well. The tire tread depth is also greater. But this will hinder the performance of the SRT.

It all boils down to what is best for your application.

Best for now.

Re: 2014 WK2 SRT Snow Tires

They already bought them, so it may be a little late for suggestions...you'll be just fine with the Blizzaks. It's a great tire.

Re: 2014 WK2 SRT Snow Tires

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yes - I've had nokian tires on previous cars, but I saved a lot of $$$ dealing with US pricing... I live in Windsor Ontario so have the ability to pick up the products from Detroit. Without getting into specifics, I saved at least $1000 then from buying from Canadian distributors - called about 3 or 4 different places.

I only drive around 6000 miles a year - so hopefully these last over the next couple of years.

Re: 2014 WK2 SRT Snow Tires

Ive heard great things about the blizzaks. I had a buddy in Connecticut a few years ago and thye got like 3 ft. of snow, ice etc. and he was very lonely blasting down the highway with the blizzaks

God I wish they made duratracs that would fit the SRT.

Closest i found was 275/55/20.

I had them on my 2000 WJ they are hands the best tire I've found for when the shit hits the fan.

There may be Hope If I can only get my Local tire guy to get 1 in for a test fit.
my 2011 Laredo with 20x9 Viper Reps with 275/55/20 Firestone Le2's

So my question is if my Stock ORA1 Laredo can do a 275/55/20 with 0 rubbing at all ever when i had it. why can't the SRT?

Re: 2014 WK2 SRT Snow Tires

I've never used the Duratracs, but there's no way they'd outperform a dedicated winter snow tire design. Just based on surface area it has to contact the road and minimal siping, it would fall short of the Blizzaks.

And Duratracs on an SRT—that's all kinds of wrong.

Spells Amazing Because the sidewall you can hit more shit!

Blizzaks are great when there's pavement underneath or else they clog up.

But, you'd still be driving an SRT with Duratracs...

And I drove through tons of snow build up last year, probably 4+ inches in the dirt and the Blizzaks cleared really well actually. Not so much mud because it was frozen. If you want off road tires get the Duratracs, but they would be nonsensical to get for dedicated snow tires alone.

I'm sure there are several Nokia tire distributors in Detroit?
