2015 WK2 Altitude 275/55/20 Goodyear Adventurer AT Kevlar

So I finally purchased a set of 275/55/20 tires for the stock Altitude 20" rims. The Forteras just weren't cutting it in the looks, rim protection, or snow and dirt performance category.

I'll start by saying in the last 4 years I've owned 2 Wranglers and 2 WK2's. I've had many tires on these roughly 5,500 pound jeeps and you have to be very careful when going with a 20" tire. You can completely ruin the ride by buying a LT type tire. These Jeeps are only made to run a tire with 4-6 ply rating or load range C. They come stock with a load 107 T type tire for a reason. If you have a tire that is too stiff or can support 3,000 pound per tire you will ruin the ride or have to run your tires @ 20 PSI which will kill your gas mileage!!! I made the mistake of going with 35" Trail Grapplers on my 4 Door Rubicon with a hard top, winch, Metal bumpers, and they were still a nightmare of a ride and I was getting 12 MPG even with the 410 gears and only a 3.5" lift. The problem is they were 10 ply tires rated at nearly 3,300 pounds a piece for an 18" tire. They rode like I had concrete tires even aired down to 25 PSI. 5,500 pound just isn't heavy enough to compress the 8-10 ply tires. Moral of the story pay very close attention to the load capacity when buying tires for these Jeeps.

So back to the WK2 and my new Goodyear Adventurer AT w Kevlar. I've searched every tire possible and between load range/ ride comfort, weight, wet, dry, and snow traction, road noise, sidewall strength without added weight of an 8 ply tire = (Kevlar) these were the best I could possibly find. The icing on the cake was the 70 dollar rebate Goodyear is offering on a set of 4 plus and additional 70 off if you apply for their Card and you get 6 months to pay them off no interest. Twist my arm why don't ya GoodYear... I was in between the DuraTracs and The Adventures on my final decision. The final decision was seeing them both in person. There is no possible way with the lack of siping the Duratracs have they won't hydroplane in a deep puddle. If I was doing 50% on road and 50% off road I may have gone a little more aggressive, but I think for all around traction these Adventurers will be great.

I've got about 500 miles on the tires so far and I'm a 85% on road driver and 15% off road. So far they have been great and ride good in the rain, dry pavement, and deep puddles. I live in Charleston, SC and wet traction is very important. They handle and ride very similar to the factory tires and I haven't lost any noticeable gas mileage.

I went with the 275/55/20 size and they fit with no rubbing or issues at all. Overall I am very happy and will update when I get some more miles on these puppies.

Nice review. I started looking at these. Nice to see a review from someone that has had some of the same sure experiences I have. I rolled on 37" KO2's on my Rubicon. They rode as good as a Wrangler could ride. I'm a little nervous going with a 275 on my High Altitude with QL. I think I can get these in a 265 though.

Re: 2015 WK2 Altitude 275/55/20 Goodyear Adventurer AT Kevlar

Thank you, I appreciate it! I can't be 100% certain, but I'm sure someone has ran the 275-55-20 on the QL here. Also just FYI if you did stick with the 265 for me that opened the door for the new Terra Grappler G-2's. Unfortunately the 275 sizes they offer are LT tires and the only size they offer a P type load range tire is in the 265-20. Just another tire to throw in the mix if you stay with the stock size.

I honestly think you will be ok with the 275's. Good year has like a 500 mile test period so maybe you could discuss this with the tire place ahead of time? Tell them your concern and take it for a drive? Just a thought... Good luck!

The ride on the Forteras on the road is pretty good actually as they are a street all season tire and virtually no noise at all. Mind you I've had 2 sets on different WK2's and the most miles I've had on them before I replaced them was 15,000 because I hate the way they look and offer zero rim protection. So I can't speak for ride or noise with high miles on the tires. The GY AT Kevlar ride and noise are very similar to stock except you have a little more meat between you and the pavement. Road noise isn't a factor with the Forteras or The GoodYear AT's I installed. You really don't notice road noise until you get into a more aggressive tread pattern. Most modern AT tires do pretty well in the road noise category now as most of them are designed to be an 80% street and 20% off road tire.

My local GY has the 275's in stock. I'm going to sleep on it and then decide.

I just got a set of the Goodyear AT Adventures in the stock size, 265/50/20 and couldn't be happier. I had the Terra Grappler G2's for about 5 months and couldn't stand them. The ride was extremely harsh and they were very loud on the highway. It is like night and day having these Goodyear's on. They are just as quiet as the Fortera's were and the handling is great.

I would like to just stick with stock size and not risk the fitment issue possibilities.

I felt the same way. They just started making the AT Adventures in the 265/50/20 a month or so ago or I would have gotten them instead of the G2's to begin with. Ill post some pics tomorrow if I can.

Are the nitto g2's that bad. I'm surprised the reviews are pretty good for those. They were on my list along with the Goodyear's and a couple others on my 15 altitude. Just curious

I thought they were terrible. My wife even said the ride was terrible the first time she drove it with the G2's on. They are a little more aggressive looking than Goodyears but I drive to drill rig sites for work and the AT Adventures are so much more comfortable and will get me anywhere I need to go.
