2016 Summit suspension settings

I've driven about 6k miles in my new 2016 Summit Ecodiesel and it's a great car. Just came from 2014 Overland and I love the upgrades, looks, technology, etc... Oh and great mpg: 25 to 30% economy over the Pentastar, I've done 727 miles with one tank!

But here's my only complaint: the suspension seems softer than in my Overland. Is it possible? I feel my head wobble more and my girlfriend is often getting car sick.

Are the suspension settings different in a 2016 Summit than in a 2014 Overland? If so, is there an easy fix to make it firmer?

Thanks

Re: 2016 Summit suspension settings

Yes that is the case. I had a 2014 Summit V8 and I certainly loved it, but the suspension did feel floaty. That's why when I test drove the Overland High Altitude for the first time I was in love with it and ended up buying it.
It's more so just a personal preference and I liked the slightly sportier and firm ride of the Overland HA. The Summit being the luxury model I suppose it makes sense that it's a more cushy ride.

Re: 2016 Summit suspension settings

What is the difference in the settings of the 2015 Summit and the HA? Is it shocks, spring calibration, sway bars or maybe a combination? I have 2015 Summit V8, can I upgrade my suspension without a major outlay of costs?

I'm not sure all the differences, but I would imagine it wouldn't be cheap or easy to change or swap parts. The airbag suspension components are different part numbers as well and those parts would not be cheap. So unfortunately those looking for a bit more of a firm ride, I don't think it would be as simple as changing a sway bar or something easy like that.

Re: 2016 Summit suspension settings

Was your 2014 Overland 4x4 or 4x2? You might have had a standard suspension in your Overland while your new summit has the Airbag suspension.

They are vastly different. The springs provide a more firm ride while the air suspension has more of that floaty ride everyone mentions. Apparently the HA is a nice inbetween of the two.

JTS might have a better understanding since they have owned both vehicles

Re: 2016 Summit suspension settings

The Summit purportedly has a "softer" feel. And the tires are different, too. Tires do very much affect the feel.

Re: 2016 Summit suspension settings

Yes my Overland was 4x4 with air suspension. When I tried the diesel there was no Summit on the lot, so I went for a test drive in an Overland diesel. I really liked the Overland settings, hope I find a way or I might have to change again...

You might just need different tires. A firmer tire might just make all the difference that youre looking for.

Re: 2016 Summit suspension settings

Observation...I just had my new tires installed on Thursday. (Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus) These are the same tires that currently are standard on the Summit. They are very different feeling than the Nitto NT421Q I've had on for the last two years..."floaty-er" if you will. While I happen to like them a lot, I can appreciate how some folks would prefer a stiffer ride/tire. You might look at the Defender LX which is an LT tire. While the Nitto tires I was running were stiffer, I can't recommend them due to tread wear life...rated for 70K but done at 30K with 4/32. My original Forteras still had 6/32 at 40K when I switched them out.

The Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus come in T and V ratings for the 265/50R20. Did you get T or V rated ?

How does the Verde floatyness compare to the fortera? the bouncing ball effect and bad handling was my biggest complaint about fortera.

Moving to Michilians transformed the vehicle but like you these are going to be shot at 30k miles, Defenders will be going on it in a few months.

Re: 2016 Summit suspension settings

silver', I got the v-rated Pirellis. I never had any complaints about the Forteras ride. I think that the Pirellis may be "in between" the Fortera and the Nittos, but it's been two years since I had the former on the vehicle. I am liking the new tires, however, and given that 90% of my driving is highway (business travel), I'm actually happy not to have a stiff ride.
