265/65R18 Spare

I replaced my stock tires with GY Silent Armor tires size 265/65R18. The shop I went to only had four in stock so I couldn't get the spare done. Today my wife dropped the WK2 off at the dealer to get the windows tinted and I had her ask them to swap the stock spare tire for a 265/65R18 GY. She was told the 265 tire won't allow the lid to close on the spare well. Is this true? I thought I read on here or another forum where the 265 fit fine and it was the 275 people had problems with as far as closing the lid.

If anyone has a 265 tire on the spare in the storage area please let me know if the lid closes or if there are any problems. I'll be running to discount tire this weekend getting them to throw one on if it fits. Thanks.

Re: 265/65R18 Spare

Can't imagine why they thought this size would not fit--unless the GY tires have different dimensions than other 265/65/18s--when others have reported that this size does fit. One person even changed the spare rim to an 18X8 steel rim and said the 265/65/18 and jack still fit fine, although tight, and the lid still closed fully. Discount Tire should be able to sort this out for you.

Re: 265/65R18 Spare

Here is a 275/65/18 Duratrac spare, it fits diameter wise but is a little to fat for the lid to close. I'm going to run the factory spare in there for on road driving.

Re: 265/65R18 Spare

I wanted to revive this threat

Has anybody modified their trunk cargo floor to accomodate a full size spare?

Im getting a full size 275 65 18 and I know the floor wont close at that size, wanted to either make a new floor or have an audio shop do one for me

Re: 265/65R18 Spare

I'm using a 255/70 18 as a spare tire, same diameter as 275/65 but narrower. The floor just closes without the two bins.

Re: 265/65R18 Spare

With a New 2016 Laredo 75th to be ordered tomorrow, with the only addition of ORA1, I am too Concerned about what will or won't Fit in the spare compartment. I plan to put or have FCA replace during build, the Std. Michelin's 265/60R18 with the Std. Goodyear AT Adventure's that come on the Limited 75th w/ORA2 (the wheels on the G.C. are the SAME.
BUT, I do not know what the steel rim size is that's used for the std. spare (which is probably some Chinese crap?) Nor is it easy for me to go check; nor am I willing to "trust" a salesman over the phone to say! Ideally I would like to put the SAME Goodyear as the spare, on that steel wheel IF it fits properly. If not, then a Better off road worthy Rim is needed AS long as it Fits in the spare spot ! ! ! ANYBODY have intel or knowledge on the Size of the spare Rim - 18"x8" ?

See, I want to run a full size just in case. That is good for everyone to know though, thanks for sharing that.

Re: 265/65R18 Spare

"Full Size" when it comes to the spare means the same diameter and duty rating. The OEM spares are the same ~30.6" that the OEM tires are on the four corners (regardless of wheel size) but in the case of the "full size" spare, it's not as wide....it has the same rating, etc., but a smaller contact patch. So try to work with the tire size calculators online to determine what size will match the regular tires if you upsize...focus on the diameter because that's the truly important dimension.

----
'Fly, the OEM "standard" spare is a donut and not really usable for anything but what it comes with, but if you get the factory tow package, you'll get a "full size" spare on an 18" wheel. You can change the tire to something bigger if needed to match any tires you change to after you buy the vehicle. You cannot order different tires from the factory but you "may" be able to get your dealer to, um...deal...if you want something different and are willing to pay for the privilege.

Right. All things I am aware of. So to clarify , I want to run, a full, exact same size height and width of my 32s...

I am basically looking to see if anyone has modded their cargo floor to accommodate a wider spare. It doesn't appear anyone has.

Re: 265/65R18 Spare

I remember a LONG time ago someone posted some photos of "risers" they did to lift the lid, as it were, but I don't remember when or where...of course, when the tailgate is up, you could see the gap...
