275/55/20 Toyo Open Country A/T II

Alright, my Overland is one month old and I've decided to get rid of the Badyear Farteras. I have to say that we have not received our expected snow and rain yet so to be fair the Farteras were just fine. They were black, round, with a hole in the middle but nothing to brag or complain about. However as I had stated in the new members forum I do a lot of road trips and whiel I do not rock crawl or mud bog, I do go off on dirt trails to see the great and wonderful things---Meteor Crater requries driving miles of dirt track, or driving down and through Monument Valley is miles of dirt so I wanted to stay with an A/T tire.

Thanks to all your threads and discussions I was able to sort out many questions on 20" selections, and most importantly, what to do for a spare, and what spare will still fit in the spare tire compartment.

I've had good experiences with Toyo Open Country A/Ts with one set on a Chevy Tahoe Z71 4x4 and two sets on my Ram 2500 diesel 4x4. They are very quiet but good in rain, snow, dirt, and hard top road. They also lasted---with 60k+ on an 8,000 pound diesel 4x4.

So with the new Toyo A/T II on the market, I wanted to stay with a known product. I just had them installed and they certainly gsve a beefier look without going all knobby and mudder to an Overland that has an elegant appearance. It clears the bolt on the A arm by about 6 millimeters.

Another member JayB had noted that the spare should be 255/70/18 to match the 275/55/20 so I purchased a "take off" in that size for $65.00 to install replacing the factory spare. Sure enough just as JayB said, it fits right in the spare tire carrier with the cover closing properly. I did have to remove the two plastic containers but I just stuffed the odds and ends back in the tire compartment so no loss of cargo room.

So, anotehr tire for follks to consider the Toyo A/T II. Thanks to everyone for clearing up so many questions.

Did some searching on this tire seems to be the real deal. Looking to order in the next week or so. If anyone else is running them or have any info that would be great!

Greetings,

I am running with the 265/60/R18.

The tire is a complete upgrade over the previous model. When I did my research a couple months ago, the word was they improved the traction significantly. The only improvement Toyo did not make was in the rolling resistance area. When I called them at the time, they did not have any information if it was hard or soft tire compound. This was one of the categories that was important to me for the snow/ice season. They differently went after the Cooper DIscoverer AT3 and the GY Silent Amor.

I finally ended up with the Nokian Rotiva AT, they do make your size. It is more money, but so far it was worth it for me.

Nokian Rotiiva AT

Best for now.

Re: 275/55/20 Toyo Open Country A/T II

I like it on my 2012 ram 3500 4x4... I put them on New Years weekend and have about 14k miles on them so far, improved over the first gen off road( no mudding, but rail acces roads that were snow covered and then muddy when it melted) snow/ice traction, rain, etc all improved They are louder than the grapplers, but these are ten ply and the grappler I had were on a half ton and p metrics. If I was getting them for the wife's ride, terra grapplers would be my choice.
