Re: GAUGING interest in adding SRT8 Brembos to your wk2?

Well yeah I wouldn't be a fan of gold calipers your right, but that's just my own personal taste. I like red Brembo's, but on cars that a red caliper would work with. My only point was that if someone was going to do this upgrade, black calipers would look more appropriate on a luxury vehicle such as the Jeep Overland. Hey I'm not knocking your idea by any means as I like the idea, but if I we're to do this mod to my new Overland, I'm pretty sure the red caliper would clash with all the chrome and the saddle interior lol. So they would have to be painted black. I still have a feeling these calipers won't work with any of the Jeep wheels except the SRT wheels. I don't know for sure though.

Just recalling the published 60-0 numbers from memory, the SRT stops one hell of a lot faster on first slam. Sure, some of that results from the suspension upgrade on the SRT. But good things should be happening first push, and likely even more so after heat buildup -- but both should improve dramatically.

Or am I missing something?

Re: GAUGING interest in adding SRT8 Brembos to your wk2?

Slowing down, let alone stopping, from 140+ on my stock brakes was a "need a new pair of shorts" experience the first time! I down shifted through the gears and was almost ready to use the E-brake as my regular brakes just weren't cutting it. I had plenty of area left but that was just one run and I knew it wouldn't handle another. I put those stockers through one hell of a torture test. I never had a failue or a warped rotor but they were lacking to say the least.

Here is a pic of the poor things. Notice the hot spots and the pad marks burned into them.

This is with brake coolers and never letting them sit after a heavy run. I always let them cool by continuing to drive around.

With the Brembo's stopping is not an issue. I find the hotter they get the better they work. In an emergency situation it is better to have more than is needed than to be left lacking.

The stock ones fade very very fast and there is nothing more important than tires and brakes!

And to everyone out there don't forget to completely change out your brake fluid every now and then, it does have a service life as do your brake lines.

As far as the wheels...that will be up to the owner. the bonus is this....the wk2 SRT brembos and the wk1 SRT brembos have the same bolt spacing....even though the 2012 front calipers are larger. No idea on the wheels yet guys.....PATIENCE

I wasn't aware the 1st generation WK brembos have the same bolt pattern as the larger WK2 brembo calipers. That might mean you could upgrade to the smaller/cheaper, yet still better, 1st generation brembos which may clear the WK2 non STR8 OEM 20" wheels.

Keep us posted.

well....I posted that so not to start another thread like what is in the wk2 forums about upgrading to brembos on the wk2. I just didnt want to start another debate about which is better. Some claimed that the stock wk2 brakes would stop just as good as the same wk2 equipped with brembos. I posted my findings after upgrading my wk1 to the brembos and seeing significant brake performance upgrade. I was called a LIAR and said what I found went against the laws of physics. I just didnt want to get into that with this. I just want to know who would be interested and to discuss the process.

Re: GAUGING interest in adding SRT8 Brembos to your wk2?

I would be interested in purchasing the bracket kit. All of the other parts are available on multiple sites. I've upgraded brakes to Brembos before on other cars. It's a very straightforward process if you know what you are doing or have thorough directions. I like the idea of throwing Brembos on my Jeep after the pads wear out.

Remember the 11th Commandment, Don't Let Yon Bastards Get You Down!

Sure, I'm interested in converting, but likely if we go to Brembos it would be only if we could use stock Jeep hardware. Our baby has a lifetime warranty, and Jeep dealers do non-maintenance work now, not me.

Scott, if you know.... Are the brembo front calipers found on the current SRT8 Challengers (2011 & 2012's) the same as the 1st generation WK SRT8 Grands brembos? They look similar to me.

The rear SRT8 calipers on the current WK2 Grands and the current SRT8 Challengers (2012's) look identical to me, Are they?
