Airing down tires off road in a 2014....

We had a 2011 WK2 4x4 and when I would lower the air pressure to 20# or so off road the low tire pressure light would come on and that was it.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced airing down the tires in a 2014 and if it is the same. I know of some other vehicles that have that annoying low air pressure chime that dings ever 5 or 10 minutes as a reminder of low tire pressure.

My wife and I are heading out to the mountains soon in our 2014 Diesel 4x4 and will have the tires aired down for the week. I want to make sure they didn't add the annoying reminder chime with the light or if there is a way to turn it off.

Thanks,
Larry

Re: Airing down tires off road in a 2014....

Don't they start going off at about 25-26 psi on the 18 inch rims/tires?
Check the beachers/sand threads for how folks cope with it. Too bad the OR-II and select doesn't alter the thresholds dynamically for 'sand' etc.

I would hope you have a portable compressor and only air down when you need to, then air back up as soon as you finish wiping the silly grin off your face. You wouldn't want to be driving on paved roads at only 20 psi.

I air down to 17 ... no chimes ... just a notification in the cluster.

Not to hijack (related to the thread) can you guys recommend a reasonably priced compressor that is good for the GC. I have a really cheap one and it's slow and VERY noisy.

Thank you! That's what I was hoping to hear.

Another question, does the cluster still function normal with the speedometer and all that? Is it just the light that stays on?

I use a Powertank 10lb Co2 tank and love it. Its not the cheapest alternative but I would buy one again in a heartbeat over any air compressor I've seen on the trails. It will fill tires in seconds rather then minutes. I've had mine for almost 10 years now and use it to air up my 37" tires on the Scrambler and even air tools in an emergency. I have the bag for it which makes it easy to transfer from vehicle to vehicle.

Smittybilt offers one that is a little cheaper than the Powertank. You can even make your own by buying an old Co2 cylinder and put a regulator on it.

Just my 2 cents.

Larry

The center of the cluster shows the tire pressure for all four tires with a note to add air. The speedometer and the options in the upper corners still work.
