Re: ALL NEW NITTO NT421Q in 265/50 VR 20

I got mine at Discount Tire about three weeks ago. So far they seem to develop a flat spot after sitting overnight, and that goes away after a few miles on the highway. I'm hoping that this isn't an issue during the colder months.

Also I get a low whine on smooth roads.

Re: ALL NEW NITTO NT421Q in 265/50 VR 20

Just bought these tires(nitto 421q) a week ago.. Tires look good but I didn't like the way the jeep drove with them on...it felt like the tires were really heavy and had an impact on how the the jeep performed...
Anyway I had them replaced and everything is good....

The tires comes with a wider and a higher ranking than the stocks,,, so this could be a reason,,, and the tires 20%-25% heavier
I felt same way in the beginning but happy now
I would suggest to check the pressure on the tires

Did check the tire pressure.... It still didn't make a difference....these tires made it feel like I was towing a boat...

Well the tires are meant for more spirited driving in all seasons and the reason they "feel" heavier (if you got the OE size) is because of the softer tire compound. I felt the same effect when I had my NT420's but it was far more planted and gave better feedback when pushed hard then the yokohama's I had

It is no secret these are heavy weighing in at 40 pounds each combine that with the weight of your weight wheels 35 pound each an you have a slight increase in unsprung weight. Of course rotation mass multiplies that unsprung weight and that is what you are feeling.

Most of the weight comes from the belt carcass inside the tire and some comes from the rubber.

These are reinforced tires and have higher load capacity so some more weight is expected.

Honestly off the line performance has taken a slight hit, but it you are rolling and accelerate there is no discernable difference.

For the money I can live with the extra weight.

The benefits I get are:

Increased handling
confidence in the wet
better rim protection against curbs.
better resistance to sidewall damage
Decent ride for a performance based tire.

Ok.... Not doubting that the nitto 421q is a good all season tire... And is much better built over the OE tires...
I'm just saying..with these tires being heavier and wider give a different ride that I'm not happy with....

If you still had them I would offer this little tip

Front PSI : 36

Rear PSI : 36.5 or 37

this does help with the feel becasue if they are under inflated they will feel like you are driving through soft mud like something is holding you back.

The extra PSI in the rear helps with extra body roll and for some strange reason helps with off the line feel.

J-a', I run the Forteras at 38 psi...what do you think that's going to do with the Nitto NT421Q when I get them in a few months?
