Red face Another 275/55R/20 forum... I'm still confused

I'm really sorry everyone, I know that this question has been asked NUMEROUS times, but I'm still confused. I recently got back from running around in the Anchorage area asking about this tire, and if it will fit. Well take a guess what? Both the dealership and another shop here in town told me that it wont. But... I brought this site up to them, and also showed them the picture on jeepforum.com with the guy with nitto terra grapplers on it, and told them it will fit. The guy that helped me at mufflercity went out to my Jeep and did the whole 9 yards with me, had me lower my Jeep, and turn the wheel back and forth, he ended up telling me that it would fit IN PARK MODE WITH QUADRALIFT. The 3 tires we talked about were:

Cooper LTZ - his #1 pick!
Nitto Terra Grapplers - #2 pick
Firestone Destination - UGH his last pick, didn't recommend at all!

Then I headed off to the dealership, well I had to go through the same scenario... :/ This time I showed the guy the pic of the person with the 276/55R/20's, and he was suprised. "Ok then if it will fit you have a lot more options..." But if they mount them and they don't fit, I can't get my money back. Now I talked to him about the same tires except, he brought up 1 more tire the Michelin LTZ All Terrain, he HIGHLY recommended those!

Please help! I have the 2011 JGC Summit with the quadralift installed on it. Right now I am running the stockers - 265/50R/20's. Please I know a lot of people are running the 18's and you have a lot more options with that size wheel, but I need to know about the 275/55R/20's. Will they fit IN PARK MODE WITH QUADRALIFT? YA or NA?

I will be going in soon because I have to get my headlights replaced I have moisture in both my headlights, so they will be replacing them for me with-in the next week or so as soon as they get them in, so at the same time I would like to get the tires replaced.

So this is what I'm looking into right now these tires:

Cooper LTZ's
Nitto Terra Grapplers
Firestone Destination AT's
Michelin LTZ M/S2's

PLEASE HELP! ANY HELP MUCHO'S APPRECIATED!!! I don't want to drop that kind of money and they don't fit, IN PARK MODE WITH QUADRALIFT. any pictures with that size tire would be even more helpful!!!

Re: Another 275/55R/20 forum... I'm still confused

imo you shouldn't have gone to the dealer for the tire fitment or any aftermarket tires install.
now even though others have fit 275/55/20 with no rubbing, that doesn't guarantee your other tire choices will fit too, only the ones that were already tried are a guarantee.

just keep in mind that every tire is different, the shape of the thread, even design, all afffect the actual clearance specially when on the border of fitting...

if you want to make it happen sometimes you have to take some risks, like being the first to try one particular model/size, so what if it doesn't fit, you'll still have the selling shop give you credit for them, buy them back, trade you, sell them private, etc. lots of options. again, imo you shouldn't have went to the stealership in the first place for this.
but if the tires you pick fit

now the tires you mentioned they are all over the place, totally different, what are your priorities besides the size, what do you want in a tire? are you interested in the comfort? handling? looks? any offroad? how will the tire be used? strictly summer set? see more info is needed to recommend a tire

Re: Another 275/55R/20 forum... I'm still confused

Hey there Eurosport, LOL I knew you were going to say that about my tire picks

At first I was looking into looks and how it would handle in the snow/ice. I wanted both!

I had the BFG All Terrain on my truck before I sold it and I LOVED them! They did good handling in the snow and I liked the looks.

Comfort of course I don't want to be riding on something that feels like I'm riding on needles everyday.

I'm not going to be doing any off roading.

I know I shouldn't have gone to the dealer, but they were actually the one's that recommended me to the Michelin. He told me that the Cooper's and the Nitto were made more for off road/sand, and that the Michelin's would be better for all terrain including the snow up here. (The review's also prove it)

The tires will be used all year round. Summer, winter, rain, ice etc... And I don't want to go with a strictly winter tire!

I hope this helps more. Thanks again

They will fit fine. I would not worry much about fitment in park mode, you can't really drive in that mode anyway(QL will raise up at 15mph). Dropping it once you are stopped, even the tire touches an inner fender, you are not going to tear it up. The inner liners are soft felt and flex.

I think the tires in the picture are goodyear silent armors or firestones. I have nittos on mine (285/60/18) on wider offset wheels and have no fitment issues (31.5" tall, wheels sit 1.25" outboard of stock). The nittos have handled great, quiet, and pretty aggressive, good wet and dry traction, no snow yet in TX since march! One thing I read about the coopers when researchIng was they got noisy as they wore down, but most tires do.

i'll give you 2 more to look at haha
Toyo Proxes ST II (st2)
Cooper Discoverer AT3

if you weren't in Alaska i'd also recommend Pirelli Scorpion ATR, but those are no good when you get anything below 32F, they start to flat spot due to their construction...really annoying of course...

Re: Another 275/55R/20 forum... I'm still confused

UGH why is this so difficult? I swear I have looked online the last couple of days for all terrain tires, looking at the reviews of the Nitto and Coopers. Let me say that both of those tires get good reviews.

Eurosport as far as the 2 you mentioned, Toyo Proxes ST II (st2) - this one isn't aggressive enough for what I'm looking for, seeing as why I didn't mention the Michelin's in my search. Cooper Discoverer AT3 - this one isn't bad

I will make the decision soon enough... Anyone else have their 2 cents to add?

Re: Another 275/55R/20 forum... I'm still confused

ok i think i have a good idea now of what you're looking for
so therefore i'll recommend one more (should have done it sooner but didn't notice it actually does come in this size 275/55/20).
it's Hankook Dynapro ATM rf10, look it up on http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=275

i do have these myself in 18 version on a different car/truck, they grip like crazy, and no pictures do them justice as far as tread design and depth it's much more agressive looking in person. they are very very quiet, grip the road like glue, they last a really long time, only drawback they do tend to ride rougher than other at tires.

i know i know too many choices aaaaaaaahhhh

I agree X2 ^, I am going to look into those. I think I will go to more tire shops tomorrow to see what they say...

The snow is going to start flying in October time frame here, so the longer I wait, the more pain I will be in when the snow does start flying :O
