I recently heard that if a "newer" Jeep requires a tow on the New York State Thruway, the towing company requires the driver to sign a waiver absolving the company from frame damage.
LOL... that's no surprise at all considering the unique towing (actually flatbed hauling) requirements of the Jeep. Frame damage? That's the least of their liability concerns.
If you aren't familiar with the fixed system of the NYS thruway (I-90), do not breakdown, get hit by a deer or slide off in the snow. You can only be towed, by the authorized thruway contracted towing agencies. Even if you have insurance, AAA, or a buddy with a flatbed the contractor between exits is the only legal person that can tow or even pull vehicles from the road. It's ridiculous and corrupt but you can't fight city hall and come out ahead. However, I wouldn't sign any waiver if by-law I'm being forced to use a vendor with inadequate gear but I would want the flat bed. They also want immediate payment in cash. Not a lot of wiggle room. A guy living just off the thruway received a citation for supplying a filled gas can to a relative. The relative was also sighted. Just ludicrous.
Same on all limited access highways in NYS. If you have tow coverage, you can have authorized tow take your vehicle to the nearest exit, where you can get your own tow.
