Are Black Wheels A Scam?

First, do black wheels cost more to make? My thoughts are no. I know the trend is for black these days and there are more offerings of black wheels. IMO the wheel mfgs love this trend since all they have to do is paint as opposed to making sure the wheel finish is perfect. Paint can mask imperfections that wouldn't be seen on polished or clear coat satin finishes.

Second, don't they intimate you could care less about your wheel appearance since most wheel features are lost when they are black? With black wheels one doesn't have to worry about getting the wheels super clean so less headaches - yes?

I won't deny I don't care for black wheels but think, "...to each his own..", as it is said.

With demand, comes higher prices that are not necessarily related to cost to produce...it's the nature of capitalism.

Black wheels and the tires need to be cleaned better and more often if you care about the best possible appearance.

Very true. Calling it a scam is going a bit too far. Might as well say that with everything then - Ralph Lauren clothes, diamonds, Apple products, Taylor Swift tickets, ect. You pay more to keep up with what is trendy. I Plasti-dipped my wheels and couldn't be happier with them. I suggest you do the same if you want black wheels.

Disagree. Compared to silver they're much more forgiving and hide brake dust and dirt better.

Well, nothing screams, "BADASS", like black wheels, CB antenna and a Bash Plate. I love that name, bash plate. You guys have some rich colloquialisms.

Maybe in the short term, but if you ignore the crap that gets on the wheels, they'll deteriorate just as fast as the clear coated silver wheels.

In fact, the matt wheels usually take on a chalky hue after a couple of seasons that is hard to get rid of.
