Best all around tires for multi use

I put a lot of miles on my JGC. Some miiles 15% on poorly maintained mountain roads - all paved but lots of pot holes, covered in mud in winter months, I live in place where I need to park a trailer in area where I have some soft soil. When it rains it gets muddy sometimes. But majority of my mileage is on nicely paved highways.

What is a good tire for me? I have stock 265/60/18 Michlins that came on my JGC Limited. Seem like a decent street tire. Havent put them on soft soil yet. The stock tires sort of look sissy to me - Im thinking slightly more aggressive tire.

Whats a nice multiuse tire that might be a little more aggressive but still handles well, are quiet, etc.

I dont think I want to go much bigger and fuel economy and handling are important to me as well.

Sounds like a solid AT would serve you well. Many JG members swear by the top five tires on this list. Many are good year round.

Re: Best all around tires for multi use

Has anyone had there tires changed at pickup? I am trying to have my tires changed when i pick up my GC this week.I do not want the stock tires that come on my ORA2 package. Trying to work out a deal for a swap for Firestone destination AT tire.

Re: Best all around tires for multi use

I just picked up some Toyo Open Country AT's - they are slightly less aggressive than the General Grabber AT2's, DuraTracs, or BFG AT's, but I got them for similar reasons to what you listed as your needs. So far haven't used them offroad but on pavement I think they actually ride better than stock Goodyear Forteras and are just as quite. In the past I've had BFG AT's and ProComp AT's - both decent tires but a little louder and more aggressive than some others.

Firestone destination AT's are the best value AT out there. I've had bfg's, dunlops, toyos, and plenty of stockers. I drive 38k a year, so I buy lots of tires. When my stockers wear out, I will be going with the destination AT's. I had them on my 2007 wk and they were long life and decent off road.

Re: Best all around tires for multi use

Some here like GY Silent Armor which is an AT tire. One step down would be Michelin LTX M/S 2 which is what I am using.

Re: Best all around tires for multi use

I'm very pleased with the GY Silent Armors (265/65/18), which I use year-round. They have the mountain/snowflake symbol for winter traction requirements, with a mild AT tread that looks good. And they are pretty quiet on the pavement.
I traded mine at 100 miles through Discount Tire and received $75.@ for the MIchelin Lattitude take-offs, including spare, which I also replaced with the 265/65 GY, which is the largest size that will fit in the spare compartment and allow the lid to fully close.
I'm not certain that Discount carries Firestone tires, however.
