BFG KM 255/75/17's on stock Laredo wheels

Hi guys I just wanted to post this info up since I searched long and hard on the web and couldn't find this exact answer. For those looking for an easy upgrade to performance and style you can fit the 255/75/17's off a Wrangler Rubicon on a WK2 without rubbing. I haven't done any major wheeling yet but I have no rubbing at all. They are definitely louder, ride quality has decreased, and MPG has dropped in the city (not so much on the highway).

Here's some pics.

Yea the same tires but mine or mounted on the stock Grand Cherokee Laredo wheels.

One thing to take note of is I've read the 17"x7.5" Rubicon wheels rub the front brake calibers slightly so they had to sand them down a bit. I haven't tried it. I can tell you the tires will fit 17'' Laredo wheels and will not rub though.

Oh I gotcha, it didn't register that you have it mounted on the stock wheels. The wheels in this listing looks like it's gray... almost like the Trailhawk wheels.

Yea they redesigned the Rubicon wheels on the 2013's+ for the Rubicon. So I'm not entirely sure if they fit different than the 2012 and below.

Looks good!

Gives me a better idea of how my true blue '14 will look with some better tires. More pictures, maybe a side profile from a bit further back would be great to see.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your set of tires?

They were $500 new off Craigslist. People buy Rubicons and sell the tires and/or wheels all the time. Check your local Craigslist. They can often be found cheap since so many people sell them. They are a good tire, louder and not as good in the snow but will give you much better offroad traction.

Re: BFG KM 255/75/17's on stock Laredo wheels

Very nice. Thanks for the other photo.

I saw on jeepforum.com that you posted some more info that I have a question about...not sure if you can help me.

You said:

Just remember though if you pick up the wheels AND tires that changes the game as the Rubi mohab wheel will rub the front rotors and has a different backspace. People have done it though with spacers. (according to this thread)
-

I already picked up some Moab wheel take-offs from a Rubicon and was wondering if they won't fit for any reason? Based on what I researched around the forums, they should bolt straight on with the tire I'm looking at getting (not the Rubicon wheels mind you, which I know is what you specifically stated as being problematic). I've narrowed it down to some Toyo Open Country AT II's at 265/65/17. The 265/70/17 (I know others have fit, at stock with no problems) seemed like it might create a problem with spacing, but again, I'm not positive.

From what I've read, only the Hemi versions of the WK2's will have an issue with the Moabs or Saharas contacting the caliper. All V6's clear it. Please correct me anyone if I'm wrong.

Will I need spacers with the setup I'm looking at? Based on everything I've reaserched, it seemed I wouldn't have any problems.

Any advice would be awesome. Thanks.

-

Edit:

I also just ran this through the wheel/tire size comparer, also looking like I shouldn't have any problems...

Re: BFG KM 255/75/17's on stock Laredo wheels

You may be correct in the MOAB wheels. I thought I read though that the HEMI guys had trouble with a 17'' wheel in general, not just the Rubicon wheels. But I honestly haven't tried it so I'm not sure if it'll rub or not. I honestly don't see any reason why they wouldn't fit but I think I read somewhere you may need a 1/4'' spacer. When I was researching I found a bunch of people who did MOAB wheels and tires (BFG KM's) but I couldn't find anywhere someone mounting the 255/75/17's on stock wheels so I'll admit I skimmed over most the info on the MOAB wheel/tire combo.

Re: BFG KM 255/75/17's on stock Laredo wheels

Having a look between yours and others that are running 255/75/17, I think convinced me I'd like the same. It's the best looking tire option that fills the wheel well.

And I wish I could justify these BFG KM2s for mine, but I just don't do enough off roading and my girlfriend might kill me if she ever laid eyes on them.

Do you mainly use this as a daily driver or are you lucky enough to dedicate it to off roading?

It's a daily driver but I do hit the trails (not so much for pure offroading) but to get to mountain trailheads and camping spots.

If you don't do any of that the only benefit these tires give is appearance. Otherwise they are loud, lost a MPG or two, and they probably will wear fairly quick.
