I purchased a set of 14x1.5mm acorn lug nuts, and upon arrival noticed they're much smaller at the base than the stock silver acorn style nuts. While it seats in the base of the lug hole on the rim, it doesn't seem like it's the perfect fit like the stocks.
This is what I bought..
Seat Type
Cone Seat
Thread Pitch
14mm x 1.5 or 14x1.5 or M14x1.5 Threads
Hex Size
19 mm or 3/4"
Length
1.40 inch or 36mm
All I am looking to do is replace silver stock with black to match the wheels. I am not sold on locking lugs based off stripping reviews, and I am not looking to start a debate, lol. Please point me in the right direction, a link would be even better!
Had these put on my Overland last week as they replaced the stock Goodyear Forteras with Grappler g2s (props to SilverBillet). And they completely cover the base.
SFX Performance had the best price by far for Gorilla locking lugs. Granted they are not what you want, but I found their customer service super courteous and knowledgeable when I called to make sure I was ordering the correct item.
I say call and ask if they have what you are looking for, likely they can help you faster that way.
Thanks so much for the info! I checked the site and could not locate a non lock lug, all good thugh bc I actually don't mind the look of the all lock set. The only negative reviews I've read on that setup is stripping of the lugs, then you're up the creek. Have you or anyone seen this/heard of it?
Those tires look so good! Any additional road noise, ride difference over the stock goodyears?
Stripping - well the guys at the tire shop installed the lugs with the Grapplers, and I just checked - don't see any signs of distress. They either took great care putting them on or the lugs are better made than other products.
As to the tires, Grappler 285 50 r20. At first I noticed some noise, likely because I was expecting it due to a more aggressive tread, but now not so much - really nothing annoying. Ride-wise, nothing but awesome. Not intentionally, but I feel a lot more comfortable going over potholes for example. And appearance-wise, the wider stance better represents this vehicle.
The only other mechanical change I'd like is lifting the front-end slightly.
And by distress, I take that as wear/tear on the actual lugs? I see the lock set is steel, is the black powder coated on? I mainly want to ensure the end of the lugs don't get chipped away after tire rotations. I am ready to pickup a set!
I waited until the new tires were installed to swap out stock lugs for the Gorillas. It's dark here now, but I can post some closeup pics so you can see, at least after the first touch, the new lugs still look new.
To close this discussion I purchased the setup from SFX, which was 106.00 shipped. Sku is 96643BDX.
I could not be more happy with the lugs, they are a bear exact match to stock, except they are black and add security to the setup. Pics below, thanks to all that put input in here!
