Black wheel owners in snowy states w/salt

I wanted to ask owners of black wheels how the paint on the wheels look ? Especially in states with snow/salt on roads

I'm not so much interested in rust but more on how the finish looks .
Still like new ?

I was thinking about buying black aftermarkets for the first time but i'm concerned on how they hold up seeing as how its strictly for looks.
Also , do they chip easy ?
I dont want to have to go around all the time with a bottle of touch up paint .

I wont be doing any off roading in mud, etc.

thanks for the input

Re: Black wheel owners in snowy states w/salt

While I do not have black wheels, there are enough Altitudes around here that I probably see at least one daily. Also over the past 30 years our roads have become the saltiest place on earth in the winter other than Bonneville salt flats. I have seen no issues with the black wheels and they stay relatively clean.

Re: Black wheel owners in snowy states w/salt

I had a 14 Cherokee Altitude and ran it through one winter. No problems other than some swirl marks from the car wash I took it through a few times in the winter. In the spring I took the wheels off and used a cone shaped polishing wheel and drill with some swirl remover and it took a lot of the marks out.

I won't be taking my new HA through any car wash.

I have black winter wheels in Colorado. As I install them, I usually add a coating of that black car wax..... then I make sure to do an undercarriage wash at least once a week. No streaking anything for two winters.

Hell hath no fury like the NYC Department of Sanitation.

There are no words to describe the blatantly excessive and unnecessary amounts of road salt they throw down at the first sight of any snowflake. It takes several spring rain storms to get rid of it.

Even when the roads are dry, there is a perpetual dust cloud from the salt dust that requires a spray down with the hose on a daily basis when I get home from work.

Lets see how those wheels fare after a season of this.

Re: Black wheel owners in snowy states w/salt

I think I just picked up a heck of a deal. 4 take off - 50 miles on them - 18" rims and Michelin Latitude tires, mounted and balanced for $950.00 and free shipping. So my black rims should fare pretty well this winter.

Re: Black wheel owners in snowy states w/salt

Black painted wheels are perfectly fine for year round all weather condition use. It's just black paint, same as silver paint or whatever color is painted on pretty much every wheel. I would even recommend waxing the wheels as well to help protect the finish. I wax my polished Summit wheels.
