Blisteen 5100 snap ring fail

Has anyone have this happen to them? I had a shop install these shocks on the highest setting and one of the snap rings failed. Looking at the design it's a little scary if it would have happened when I was driving. I googled it and it seems like it has happened to other vehicles as well.

I have the same shocks but at 1.25". So far so good. I wonder how the failure occurred.

I have this same setup on the lowest setting and have had no issues. I did install myself. I however do not off-road the JGC. How long after install did this happen?

This is right after install so 0 miles. Im assuming that i either got a faulty ring or it was installed wrong. Not really sure. They will send me a new shock, I'm just hoping it does not happen again.

I'm in agreement with you, faulty ring or install. Mine were set at 1.75" and had some abuse off-road on big dips and rocks and they held up fine.

Looks like it's an uncommon issue. I'll just associate it to bad luck.

Re: Blisteen 5100 snap ring fail

I am wondering if there was a part installed incorrectly.

The 4600 series uses the same spring perch.

There is a hardened steel collar goes over that spring clip. Then the lower spring isolator goes over the collar.

If the steel collar is put on upside down there this is more likely to happen.

I have chalked it up to installation as well. Not that I am by any means an expert. But a quick internet search will return some failures and the common link is they are just installed.

That's crazy. I hope that doesn't happen to me next week.
I just ordered the 5100 kit for my GC.
