Just bought a 2012 Laredo with the standard 17 inch wheels. Picked up a set of Overland wheels from a 2012 and picked up new tires from Tirerack that I want to switch out with my current wheels. Can my independent tire shop take care of this, or should I take it to the dealer?
Called dealer and he said they need to calibrate the sensors and the computer since I am moving from 17s to 20s. Didn't realize it was this complicated.
Any advice on this process? and what would be a fair price?
Calibration will only be necessary if you go to larger overall diameter of the wheels and tires. If you are going to larger wheels and tires and the height changes from 29.5" to 33" for example then you would need a calibration for your speedo. Going to larger wheels usually mean low profile tires. If there is a large change in wheel/tire size then a calibration will be needed. I believe the dealer can program up to 2" diameter change but any more and you might need a programer, like a superchips tuner
The TPMS automatically calibarate after you drive around for a.few minutes. It isn't rocket science. They are trying to take your money. Mounting and balancing should run around $30 per wheel and tire.
The OEM Laredo tires are 245/70-17 and have a diameter of 30.50". The OEM Overland tires are 265/50-20 and have a diameter of 30.43", a difference of 0.2%.
Right on Steveo - took it to a Jeep dealer and they charged me $69 to swap them out. Figured I would take it to a Jeep shop just in case they try to do something stupid like void my warranty if I ever have an issue with it down the road. Thanks to all who responded.
PS - no need for new spare tire as existing full size 17 inch spare has the same diameter as the new 20 inch wheels and tires. Thanks Kungpaogogo
hi, i am new to this forum but interested in this especific topic, i have bought a 2012 laredo with 17" rims, and i am planning to buy the overland hyper silver 20" rims and its tires and have them sent over to mexico. Do i need to buy tire pressure sensors or anything else to have this swap done with no problems? does this new tire size need new specific tps or will the tire shop here, change the tps to my new tires and rims and i am good to go for this swap with just tires and rims?? i hope my question is clear enough! TIA for the intel.

I just did this on my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited WL. Bought 20" gladiator wheels with Bridgestone Duelers ht alenza 275/55R20. Mint set. Paid $2000. Took me a 3 hour drive to get them. The guy I bought from said that they would fit my Jeep. I should have made him put them on right there and then. Long story short the bolt pattern fits but the offset was off. They pressed on my front calipers. I went and bought 1/2 inch white knight wheel spacers at advanced auto parts it worked but after 2 days TPMS sensors come on and says tire pressure unavailable for each wheel. I heard it can mess with your Quadra Trac1 system and cause ball joints and front bushings to wear. I wouldn't feel safe only if I got the calibrated by the dealer with the ECU etc. I took a loss because the guy I bought them from never answered my calls or texts messages. So I sold them for $1100. Lesson learned.
