Careful with the 20" wheels

The 20" wheels actually are wider than the low profile tires. Sad to report that I hit my front wheel on a curb. Normally the tire would take that scrape, but not with these wheels. They take the scrape because they are wider than the tires. Learn from my mistake, and be very careful around curbs etc.

Re: Careful with the 20" wheels

Ouch, that really sucks. The good thing is they are painted hopefully they can repaint and smooth out the scratch.

The thing that really sucks on the new ones is they do not give you the a factory spare rim anymore. Then it would be easy just to swap out the bad one for the spare.

Re: Careful with the 20" wheels

Ouch, sorry OP. I'm paranoid about the same thing.

FWIW, when parallel parking, the rear camera guide lines can line up right on top or just outside of a curb and leave you a couple of inches spacing between wheel and curb.

Re: Careful with the 20" wheels

Not sure I can get the scatch out, but some paint would help with the appearance. Anyone know what they use? The first thing I checked was the spare.... Probably going to order another wheel. Its too good looking to have a wheel thats scratched.

Re: Careful with the 20" wheels

unless your in a suburban type 20 inch wheels- then you always watch for the curb. if i might add when ever i park anywhere on the street--im always 6-12" from the curb to be careful.

these wheels arent your age old ZJ, WJ,WK's- meaning there isnt much rubber to ride up on the curb with it comes to parallel parking. lol i use to love pulling in nose first riding up on the curb then falling perfectly into a perfect parking position. lol

ah the days-

Re: Careful with the 20" wheels

Not sure what color the wheels are. One good solution is to flake a small amount off and have lowe's, or homedepot color match it. The other is to find a close match at an auto parts store.

Re: Careful with the 20" wheels

It generally depends on the tire itself- some of them have extra ribbing along the sidewall, but that won't help much if you really push it in there. It doesn't help that the spokes are right out there and not recessed any.

You do have to be careful when tooling around with lower profile rims.

Re: Careful with the 20" wheels

can someone tell me what the factory recommended air pressure for the 20's is?

It would be the value on the door opening sticker: Recommended is the number Iam after. not max or anything like that.

36 psi cold.

PS I already curbed a rim, just a little. Perfect excuse to have them painted black later.

I it is not just different rim but different brand tire also. I have seen in the Overland with Goodyear Fortera tires, Kumho for spare. I've been told that for the Quadra drive to work all the tires has to be the same - same brand, tread pattern and no more than 3/32" different dept. Is this make sence or they have left overs to burn?
