Re: Continental CrossContact LX20 265/50R20

I actually got those tires on my wife's Cayenne S. So far, I like it. The guy at Discount Tire did mention that they will do okay in snow, but we have a set of Blizzaks for the vehicle that we swap in winter.

Driving in recent heavy rains, we did not notice any issue of hydroplaning or scary moments. Dry weather handling is also been real good.

Hope this helps...

Cheers,
-A

Re: Continental CrossContact LX20 265/50R20

Finally went out on a couple nice long drives. One up the highway and one down some nice twisty back roads.

Pretty impressed with the tires:

-They do ride real quiet and smooth.
-They do corner at bit better than the Fortera's, but it is still no sports car being a heavy SUV.
-Fuel Economy seems to be a tad bit better. Will know more on that over time. I got 22 to 23 MPG on my last two trips to Myrtle Beach, will see if it starts seeing 23 to 24 MPG on the next ones.

Like I said before if they offer this kind of ride and quietness for 60 to 70K miles I will be more than happy!

The forteras didnt really have many good points, not a good tire in my opinion over all but one thing they did do well was absorb bumps in the road, a softer tire, i had a set of brigestones that were hard as a rock you felt every single little bump. would you describe the LX20 as absorbing bumps as well or better as the foreras did? good to hear they are generally quiet and smooth. Thansk for the report.

I say these tires do not fall in that category. The Conti's may be a harder tire, but definitely do not ride like it. They might be a bit hard on some of the big potholes and bumps but the overall ride comfort is so much better than the Fortera's.

I also did not hate the Fortera's and OEM tire that can go 55 to 60k and be pretty decent is OK in my book...

Re: Continental CrossContact LX20 265/50R20

After quite a few drives... The tires are great.

Only bad thing so far is small rocks seem to get stuck in the tread. Guess the tire is that hard and the tread pattern account for this?

No other issue with these as well..

Re: Continental CrossContact LX20 265/50R20

The problem with Consumer Reports is they often omit newer tires. For example, here is the brand new Bridgestone, Bridgestone Dueler H/L ALENZA PLUS. And yes, they make 265/50/20 for the Summit. I am having a set put on today (Big O). We shall see. Bridgestone will refund within 30 days if I am unhappy. Unreal!

Hope they go ok for you. I put the 265/50/20 alenzas on a few months ago and they did nothing but shake even after replacing 2 of them and having them road force balanced countless times. Took them off three weeks later and still trying to get my money back from bridgestone 5 months later. Put michillins on to replace them and it was smooth as glass first time out the door. The alenza was a miserable tire on my jeep.

Re: Continental CrossContact LX20 265/50R20

The Alenza PLUS just came out late this June. 80,000 mile warranty. Mounted on a 2014 GC Summit with 20" wheels and 5.7 Hemi.

I was a little disappointed the first 5-10 miles, but then the tires settled in and became very smooth - same section of roadway - no jiggles. Damn smooth at 50+ miles. They are quieter than the stock Goodyear Fortera (498 miles on the Fortera). The engine noise from the 5.7 is actually louder - at all speeds - than the road noise.

I notice that the weight difference of 35 (Fortera) vs 43 lbs (Alenza Plus) might have something to do with toughness. The Continental weighs 37 lbs. Continental CrossContact LX20 265/50R20 certainly was my next choice as Bridgestone now offers a 30 day free exchange or money back (your choice).

Happy camper. I don't always luck out!

Re: Continental CrossContact LX20 265/50R20

yes I had the Alenza not the Alenza plus. Alenza has been out for many years. The alenza plus is the same tread pattern and design all they did was change the compound a little to help the rolling resistance and tread life. The problem I had with the alenzas was that they flat spotted after sitting over night so the first 20 minutes of driving the jeep every morning would shake like crazy and slowly smooth out and then run smooth. I could not handle 20 minutes of shaking every time I got in the car. they were also hard as a rock felt every little bump in the road. hope they did something about the flat spotting and the Plus version works out better for you.

Which Michelin's did you go with?

I have a set of the LTX MS2's sitting at the tire shop waiting for my wheels to come in. (hopefully tomorrow).

I wish I could of got those LTX MS2s in 265/50R20 they would have been my first choice. Don't have them in that size though. I got the LATITUDE TOUR HP which is a great smooth and quiet highway cruiser not the ones I would have picked if I were in snow country though. the only Michelins in that size and what I have learned is when ever I have a car with balance issues a Michelin always fixes it where all the others fail. LTX MS2 is probably the best all around tire wish I could have go them

I didn't even realize they don't come in the stock 20 size. I upsized to the 275/55R20.
