Cooper Discoverer SRX

Hey guys,

I am in the searches for a new set of tires for this upcoming winter. I have the stock 18 inch Laredo wheels. I still have the stock Latitudes that have lasted to 21K. I just hopped on the cooper site and saw a Discoverer SRX that I haven't seen before. Anyone have any real world experience with them? Pictures are most definitely welcome! I generally really like the Cooper Brand, My dads AT3 and a few past sets have proven them to be pretty good tires.

Thanks for the help.

Also feel free to point me to anything you think.

Re: Cooper Discoverer SRX

Greetings,

Cooper in the last few years are pushing their tires to the direction to all weather. You can see they have added additional siping in key tread blocks and have changed some of the tire compounds to more of a slica based. Low rolling resistance tires are being introduce into the product line. Interesting, Cooper does not sit on product introduction long. When the AT3 came out some time in 2011, they responded to some of the complaints and introduced an upgraded version with AT/W.

The SRX looks like it competes against the Michelin MS/2, Nitto, Conti, GY and others in the highway tire category. In terms of winter conditions not sure how it will do against what many now consider the best, the Nokian WRG3 SUV. I would differently take Cooper over Goodyear.

Best for now.

Re: Cooper Discoverer SRX

Anybody have a set of these installed yet ? My AT3's have 40k and have been great, but looking for a bit smoother and quieter tire.

I struggled between this tire and the Toyo Celsius, but went with the Cooper (replaced the OEM Goodyear Fortera). It is still early, but overall impression, smooth ride and quiet. Discount Tire price matched an online store and I got the 265/50/20 tire for $155 plus sales tax (sales tax and shipping offset each other, so that was a wash) per tire.

One thing I noted, the 20" size is made in the USA and they are also M+S rated. I will update as I get more miles and more winter driving.

Re: Cooper Discoverer SRX

My wife is using the SRX in her 13' Explorer and so far I love them. Great stability, quiet, no hydro planing. Will update once get some snow in them.

Re: Cooper Discoverer SRX

Anything is better than the OEM Michelin 18" tires!

I'm running Goodyear Wrangler A/T tires and love them (as opposed to some other opinions in this thread).
I had them new for last winter and they worked great in the snow and have continued to impress me throughout the year. Looking forward to playing in the snow this year.

I wanted a more aggressive tread pattern.

The Cooper SRX look to be a nice highway type tire and Cooper is a good name brand.

I just put the Cooper SRX on my 2013 Overland, nice and quiet so far. The snow has been easy too, I don't foresee having any problems with these tires, glad I got them.
