Re: Flat tire, WTHeck?! I am getting to old.....

I've repaired these myself with no issue.
But you are taking a chance.

By the way the tire protection package is a bargain.
You could probably still add it, then take the tire in.

Re: Flat tire, WTHeck?! I am getting to old.....

You can probably find someone on craigslist selling a set or individual stockers.

I'd just get a plug kit and DIY. If that doesn't hold, then worry about a new tire.

What! The tire has only 1,000 miles miles on it. It is brand new!

I am sorry sir, but the screw is to close to the sidewall, we can only sell you a new tire for only $260 (including mounting, yea?).

Damn it.

So, I went to the dealer where I bought my 4 week old 2015 GC from and got the same story. Can not fix, I must buy a new replacement tire. WTF! The screw is in the thick part of the tread, not in the sidewall. They say it is to close to the sidewall and will not fix it, they will only sell a replacement. When I was younger, garages had no problem plugging or patching these things. I had it done all the time. When did this start happening, it is a waste of a brand new tire!
I had the same problem with one of my tires (It had less than 3K miles or so in it) and I remember making a rant somewhere on this forum. I would take it to a 3rd party place to fix it or SAM's Club. I took my tire to Goodyear and they were able to patch it no problem.

Or... you could look at this as a chance to pick out a nice set of good quality new tires... (grin)

I didn't like the OEM tires on my 2014 Limited so I swapped them out shortly after I bought the Jeep. I sold the OEM tires on Craigs List.

Damn that sux. I think you should try a few other tire shops and see if they can patch it or make this an excuse to get some AT tires

Yeah they were, and special radial inner tubes, plus cushions, to avoid losing air thru those fancy wire wheels and deal with the high flex of the sidewalls on the old Michelin and Pirelli tyres.

A few of us tried using the old vulcanizing style tire patches on them and learned to buy better walking shoes as a result.

Discount tire...I always buy there policy for new cars....my GC was 89 bucks, depends on tire size give or take a few bucks.
Whatcha get? Lifetime rotation and spin balance every 5 k miles / road hazard...if it can't be fixed, they give ya a new one.
The rotation alone is worth it to me!
Also they have gear that wont scratch nice rims...I actually found out about this policy when NTB ruined a black powder coated rim on a new truck
...they bought me a new rim and handed it to me in a box. I ask, are you gonna mount it....he said no, our machine will scratch it...he said go to discount tire, they use hunter equipment that doesn't scratch

Look for an independent shop or "used" tire shops. They'll patch it because they don't care as much about liability.

At the very least, they'll be willing to tell you whether or not it is a good idea to repair it or replace it.

A used tire dealer could be more willing to repair something that is iffy. Depending on how yours is driven, this might not be that big a deal.

The stock tires suck anyway--ask Discount whether they have any free stuff on a set of Michelin MS/2 or other premium tire.

Already took a nail in a marginally close area to sidewall and tread.... they didn't hesitate to give me a new tire in my last Jeep.... regardless if the new tires suck, to me, its worth the balance and rotation alone for 89 bucks.

Does not matter what tire you have, they will honor road hazard...may be a few more bucks.... beats shelling out 200plus each time ya take a nail in the sidewall...to each there own

Re: Flat tire, WTHeck?! I am getting to old.....

Same thing happened to me. I went to discount tire and traded in the other three. They gave me $80 each. Picked up a set of silent armor instead. After the credit the total was double the price over all of what the single oem tire would've cost but I got four much better tires instead.

Re: Flat tire, WTHeck?! I am getting to old.....

That does suck. It least you didn't have a fender bender or something. It's just a tire. And I would take the opportunity to buy a new set of tires that are better than the ones your Jeep came with.
