Front Axle Differential Fluid: 75W-140 or 75W-85?

I ran across conflicting information for the axle fluid used in the front axles. Anyone know which source is correct? I'm assuming the owners manual.

Owners Manual calls for SAE 75W-140 (API-GL5) or equivalent.

WK2Jeeps.com calls for 75W-85 in the front axle:
http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm#FAXLE
(Mopar p/n 051360355AA)

Owners Manual has this information:

Axle Differential (Front-Rear):

MOPAR Synthetic Gear & Axle Lubricant SAE 75W-140 (API-GL5) or equivalent with friction modifier additive.

Axle Differential (Rear) 5.7L Engine With Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (ELSD):

MOPAR Synthetic Gear & Axle Lubricant SAE 75W-90 (API-GL5) or equivalent.

Axle Differential (Rear) 5.7L Engine Without Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (ELSD):

MOPAR Synthetic Gear & Axle Lubricant SAE 75W-85 (API-GL5) or equivalent.

I would go with the owners manual. As you can see from the attached images the owners manual has been updated. The first is from version 2 that was current about 6 weeks ago. The second image is from version 4, the most current one on the website. Always go with the owners manual for warranty concerns but you could check with the dealer to see what updated info is in their online system.

Why is this an issue already? There's no way you are anywhere near the service interval for the diffs (64,000 miles).

Re: Front Axle Differential Fluid: 75W-140 or 75W-85?

I just saw some conflicting information and wanted to verify.

No issues yet. I had a front differential go bad on my 2005 Dodge Durango (warranty). I used that vehicle for towing a 5000lbs open car trailer. I plan to do the same with the Jeep.

I have been doing some research on bobistheoilguy.com about diff fluids. I want to ensure I have the best protection before I begin towing this spring/summer. The Mopar fluid is an ok fluid according to some things I have been reading. For a small amount of money I can get better protection in there (Red Line and Amsoil fluids look real good). I bought this Jeep so I want to do everything I can to protect it.
Looks like the smaller diffs like the heavier weight oil to protect them.

It makes it sound like all the axles require the friction modifier. I don't understand why they ones that are not limited slip would require it.

I think this is pretty common for differentials. You'll see that most GL-5 gear oil already has a friction modifier in it (Amsoil, Red Line, Mobil 1, etc). In fact Red Line makes a GL-5 gear oil specifically without it for manual transmission use.
