I need to replace the front struts on my 2011 Laredo with load leveling suspension and was wondering what struts in need to order to replace them. Are the front struts the same as a grand Cherokee without the load leveling suspension? Also if someome could recommend a place to order them from. Thanks for any help
Many WK2 here use the Bilstein 4600 series as replacements and upgrades.
There is only one part number each for the front and the back.
If you are replacing the rears, I think you may have to change the upper mounts and lose the load leveling capability. I'd let someone else weigh in here.
I replaced the front shocks of my 12 Laredo with the Bilstein 5100s that are ride height adjustable. New shocks and also leveled the GC. The rears I wasn't able to use the 5100s due to it requiring different mounts even if I was to give up the load leveling function.
I believe the 4600 would be the correct application to maintain stock height. There is only one part number in the 4600 series each for the front and rear. I don't the part number, but search some threads on the forum. They are a great upgrade paired with the OE springs. Good luck.
Springs if you are going to do them. If so use the OE springs as I understand, you are not into lifting or lowering. For the V6, I found just installing the 4600s to be significant improvement over the stock struts.
Depending on age, mileage and wear, I'd think about any rubber parts, but that would be at your discretion.
Other worthwhile mods would be SRT sways and links, but that's a
different project.
I'm curious...
If a person were only interested in maintaining OEM ride height, why replace the OEM springs?
I've never heard of significant issues (sag) with coil springs over time. I could see if it was 10 years down the road, but a few years? Seems like a waste of money to me.
would you happen to know what the part number is for the OE coil? I looked on one of those mopar parts websites but there are several coil springs that aren't described very well.
Todd you are correct and Topher let me clarify. There's not need to change the OEM springs if not necessary (unless there is excessive mileage or sag), which is why I asked what your mileage was.
My comment comment was if you were going to replace them, the time to replace them would be when everything is apart. That said, my experience with the 4600 was much better in conjunction with the OE spring height. I later added lowering springs (and having to deal with some softening) and I would not recommend the lowering springs without some revalving of the 4600, which I am doing.
Having said that the 4600 and OE springs are an awesome combination bc that's what the OE struts were designed for.
