Question Full size spare is different size from other tires

My tires are 265/60/18 (part of an X package on Laredo)

I also have towing package that is supposed to include full size spare.

However, I checked my spare today and it is 245/60/18. Is this correct?

Re: Full size spare is different size from other tires

It's full size compared to a donut...

A 265 won't fit in the space they carved out for the spare.

I should probably go check mine to see how much smaller it is compared to the
265/50/20 tires.

Do you know if spare includes TMPS sensor?

Re: Full size spare is different size from other tires

I calculated and it's not quite the same diameter (slightly smaller, 29.6") as the regular tires (30.5")but remember it's just a temp. Ideal replacements should have a diameter within 0.5" so as not to put off the speedometer. I don't know about the TPMS.

BTW, my '02 Overland had same size spare on matching rims with TPMS. The monitor not only displayed the psi of all 4 driving tires but monitors the spare also (low warning).

Re: Full size spare is different size from other tires

Full size spare tires have a sensor. At least that's what the owners manual
says starting at page 419. However, the EVIC only reports on sensors
that are in tires that are mounted on the vehicle. According to the manual there
is a sensor at each wheel that reads the sensor in the tire.

Re: Full size spare is different size from other tires

^ Yes, full-size spares have a sensor. While the tire pressure is not displayed in the EVIC, a warning message will appear if the spare pressure drops below the theshhold.

Joe, if you want to verify sensor & message warning just remove your spare and take a spin around the block. Or, if you have a compressor just deflate the spare a bit and take a short drive.

Re: Full size spare is different size from other tires

That's lame. A full-size spare should be the same exact size as the other four tires. To call it a full-size spare when it's clearly smaller than the rest of the tires is misleading. Sure, it's not a donut, but it is smaller than the others! I'm really surprised they would use a 9/10 scale tire for the spare...
