Garage Rack for Extra Set of Tires?

I now have 2 sets of tires (Summer/Winter) and I need to decide how to store the set currently not on the Jeep. What is your suggestion to store tires? I would like to keep them in my attached garage. If I could bring them up off the floor that would be great in order to keep some floor space open.

Also, do I keep them covered?

Can they be stacked or should they sit up side by side?

I've never had issue stacking tires / wheels, so you could do that if you wanted.

If you need or want to cover them, trash bags should work just fine.

Check on tirerack.com for a wall-mounted rack.

Re: Garage Rack for Extra Set of Tires?

Hi, Tirerack.com has a nice wall mounted rack that they have been advertising lately that I am thinking about for storing my second set.

Re: Garage Rack for Extra Set of Tires?

Not everyone has this option, but I store my extra set of tires in my basement. Not much room in the garage to mount anything to store tires.

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

I found that they also have covers and wheel protectors. Not bad for the adjustable rack. I may consider this. Thanks for the info! Here is the direct link to the tire storage items:

Re: Garage Rack for Extra Set of Tires?

It's fine to stack if you don't get a rack. I would do that when I had a car that had two sets of wheels/tires. I used these, kept them cleaner and easier to handle.

Re: Garage Rack for Extra Set of Tires?

You might check at your job.. I was able to store mine at work covered on a mezzanine that was used for storage. Nobody ever went up there and nobody bothered them. Depends on where you work !

One of the things I did in the garage was to build a rack (see pic) as part of a weekend project. As you can see the Jeep is on the left and I was able to stack the tires above. A short trip to Home Depot to get the 2x4s as a frame and some MDF for the shelves will get you a half-decent set-up that can store a variety of items.

Re: Garage Rack for Extra Set of Tires?

Those are 20" wheels on there, they adjust fully to catch studs. And the silver rails adjust in and out to fit other size wheels (so they don't hang down to low in the rack)

Garage Rack for Extra Set of Tires?

Finally picked up a garage tire rack. Found this at Home Depot for under $45.

Install went smoothly. Secured to walk studs.
