Looking for a good set of snow tires that can be used all seasons. The Nokian WR G3 gets high marks, but doesn't seem to be available in the Limited's stock 265/60/18 size. These would be replacing the stock Michelin Latitudes. Thanks!
How much snow?
There's no such thing as a good snow tire that can be used year around, but the Latitude's big brother, the Michelin LTX MS/2 is quite OK for moderate snow, excellent wet traction, great handling, and about double the tread wear of the Latitude. OK on ice as long as you remember 4wd ain't 4w-stop.
A tad cheaper is the Cooper Discoverer series, that CAN be studded but are quite serviceable without them.
I wouldn't run any dedicated winter tire year-around, unless you live somewhere that has snow year-around, and doesn't get above 50 degrees. For an all-season tire, with good snow capabilities, look for the mountain snowflake symbol -- which will appear on a few. GY Silent Armors, GY DuraTrac, GY more here:
Thanks guys - here on top of the mountain we get a good deal of snow (60" or so during the winter) but the roads are fairly well plowed most of the time. I just know I definitely need something better than the stock Latitudes.
Lotsa all season tires will take care of deep snow, its the really cold temperatures and ice that can make you wish you had a real snow tire in a hurry going downhill.
How long are you keeping the Jeep and how many miles will you put on in that time frame?
I run snows in the winter and the latitudes the rest of the year, I'm hoping between the two sets of tires I won't have to buy another set while I own it.
They do have it for your size as member The Whiz indicated. You need the SUV version.
They are not a dedicated snow tire. They will meet your needs based upon the information you gave us. Others here have them and love them. You can not go wrong with Nokian. It is worth the extra money.
Nokian WR G3 SUV allows you to have "all-weather" verses the standard "all-season" tires without going to an A/T. Brilliant idea IMO. Have previous version on our Subaru and it goes like a tank (and no tire changing twice a year). Will probably get WR G3 SUV's on my soon to order 2015 WK2.5.
Really appreciate all the good advice. Decided to go with the Nokian WRG3 SUV 265/60/18 to replace the stock Latitudes. Ordered online and should receive them this week.
