Goodyear Fortera HL 265/50-20: replacing at 25,000 miles

Similar to StaticFX in his thread here tires are whooped... 19k miles!!! at (only!) 25,000 miles my tires need replacing. They are the OEM Goodyear Fortera HL 265/50-20. This seems very low miles especially because of what others report in that thread. Tread wear doesn't look uneven but maybe I should have the alignment checked?

I drive calmly, but I do like to cruise fast on the freeways. Still, no canyon carver here, I take the curves and the turns calmly, and avoid hard braking. Maybe I'm getting older.

Oh well, I'm starting to read up here on tires. I'll be looking for an A/T or possibly M/T tire, and as tall as possible that will fit in my stock suspension setup with QL. I will keep the 20" wheels. If they rub a little at Entry/Exit height when turned sharply, I won't mind.

Don't forget that if you up-size the tires at the four corners, you also have to up-size your spare.

Thanks Jim, I'm on it and will make sure the OD matches. However I'm not impressed by the 20" tire options out there so I may have to go 18s.

Just had a couple inches of slimy snow here on The Island......the GY Adventure ATs were way better than the Forterras that GY gave me credit for.

Re: Goodyear Fortera HL 265/50-20: replacing at 25,000 miles

We really like the Goodyear Kevlars that came on our '13 Trailhawk. We are at 40k and they have at least another 20k in them. We have put almost 20k on it since we bought it February 2015, and have made two longish trips. One of them was a trip to San Diego and back to Denver with our travel trailer behind us.

I'm sure they hurt our fuel economy some, but I wouldn't hesitate to put them on again!

GY gave you credit? Can you tell us more about this?

Most likely it's a "take-off" credit...which many tire dealers will offer and not specific to "Goodyear", even if it's a "Goodyear" branded dealership. There's a good market for "take-off" tires, especially those that are nearly new.

Okay, makes sense. I thought it might be a refund due to rapid tread wear, but you're probably right with that. Thanks Jim.

But should there not be a tread credit for a 60K tire thats gone in 25? Who would handle it, the dealer?
I'm in the same boat...26.5K and at 4/32 depth.. I run 40 PSI and did rotate....

I replaced the Forterra tires as soon as I could. For me, they were crappy street tires & just awful in the ice & snow! I put on a set of Nitto Terra Grappler G2 and couldn't be happier! Here in Alberta, Canada we gets lots of ice & snow! These tires have been amazing!

There should be, but have you ever read a tread-wear warranty? Such a pain...and (likely by design) often easier to just buy new tires and be done with it.

Oh I agree, but if it knocked 50 % of the price of new ones... I'd go thru a little pain to get there.....
