Goodyear fortera vs michelin Latitude

Has anyone switched the 20 inch tires from the Fortera to the Latitude? I was wondering what difference in the ride handling noise etc? I am thinking about doing this but not sure if its worth the expense. I am thinking I might get a better ride on the Latitude's I think the Fortera's seem to bounce alot over rough pavement. If its a smooth road with just small imperfections they are fine but that rough stuff they seem to bounce and I feel it in the steering. I think some of this is because of the higher tire pressure. Any thoughts or anything anyone could add?

Re: Goodyear fortera vs michelin Latitude

Have you tried using the lower limit of psi for each tire?

My WK (18" Fortera HL) work best at 33 psi (cold of course).

Mine came with 20" Kumhos and I'm not a fan of them. Those Eco feature doesn't do good for me.

I picked up my Overland V8 with the Goodyear tires and I find they are the worst tires I have had on any vehicle. The first chance I can get I am replacing them!

Do you have the Quadra-Lift system?
Bad in what way? Offroad? Sand?

I have the Goodyears on my Overland V8 and find they are quiet, run smooth, and transfer very little road roughness. I keep them at the recommended 36psi cold. Not the best, but by far not the worst tires I've owned in my 50 plus years of driving.

+1, I just put the 20's with Forteras back on post winter after running 18's with kick arse Firestone Destination AT's, and am really pleased with the Goodyears. I certainly would not replace them before wearing them out first. It ain't a sports car even though I drive it that way. Great combo of grip and firmness on dry pavement, with enough all round manners to get by if caught in demanding conditions.

Re: Goodyear fortera vs michelin Latitude

I never had the 20 Fortera's but I do have the 18" Michelin Latitudes, great tires for on-road driving. Very little road noise and buffeting even at high speeds. I just had my tires balanced and rotated and they're great. A word of caution though, I don't know how much you go into the rough stuff, but a lot of the WK2 drivers with the Latitudes hate the tire's offroad performance---me included, we had a few big snow storms this winter and in snow they're mediocre at best. But on-road..coupled with the new suspension, the ride quality is excellent. Like skiing on powder.

Damn, I wish it was ski season already...

Re: Goodyear fortera vs michelin Latitude

I made the switch from the 20" Goodyear's to the 20" Michelin Latitude Tour HP and am thrilled with the change in vehicle dynamics. The last post in this thread is my review: Which tires should I buy, you be the judge

I run them @ 36 lbs under normal conditions but bump them to 38/42 when I'm towing. As I suspected, the towing performance was spectacular. Overall I think these are the best optional 20" tire for non-SRT WK2's.

Re: Goodyear fortera vs michelin Latitude

My wife's Limited has the 20" Goodyears, my Laredo came with the Michelin Latitudes. So I have driven both, the Goodyears did well in the snow. The Latitudes came off after having driven in the snow once and switched to Michelin LTX M/S2's. When it comes time to replace my wife's 20's I don't know what we will put on yet, I think there will be more options by that time than there is at the moment.

My wife doesn't have her WK2 yet, but it will also have the 20" Fortera HLs and I share the same experience you did this winter: the Fortera HLs did well in the snow. Not as good as the Destination ATs on our Expedition, but very well for what is essentially a road tire.

Not a fair comparison as your Michelin's are 18" versions and not the Tour HP variant.
