Re: Goodyear Wrangler MT/R w/ Kevlar?

To answer Dave:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of these compared to Goodyear Silent Armor, LTX A/T 2, BFG All Terrain (or Mud Terrain) or Duratrack (sp)?
BFG MTs are not available in 275/65/18 which is the largest that would possibly fit with the QL. I do not know about the rest, but the wranglers were highly regarded by my off-road savvy friends.

How noisy are they?
Pretty noisy but I've heard not bad compared to other MTs. I will definitely swap out the 20s for any road-trips.

Why not go for bead lock wheels?
This will be my first off-road experience and I'm not going "too" crazy so this was plenty good enough for me. I also wanted a wheel that would fit near stock and the +56 offset is nearly impossible to find. I got the take-offs for $400 and another $400 for the BA powder coating.

Re: Goodyear Wrangler MT/R w/ Kevlar?

If they are anything like the 35's that I had on my 05' Rubicon, they are noisy. They want to grab everything in the road like tar strips and small cracks in the road, causing the Jeep to kind of wander as they grab. Also, your gas mileage will probably go down because of the size and weight: they are heavy.

My Rubi had the 35's on M/T Classic Locks with 4" long arms and a 1" body lift. With the lockers on & those tires, the Rubi was a great rock climber.

Beadlocks are not street legal, although people do use them. Plus they are a bear if not impossible to balance.

Re: Goodyear Wrangler MT/R w/ Kevlar?

Don't forget the mt/r with kevlar is 100% different then the old mt/r. Yes they are noisy but most aggressive tires are. These tires are designed to grab everything. I has the old mt/rs on 2 different ocasions on 2 different jeeps and I thought they handeled great in all conditions. I loved them. I'd love to try out the mt/r with kevlar.

So far they are great. They're not pulling me anywhere yet I feel like I can run over anything. While there is more road noise, they handle bumps better than the 20s. Really I'm worried about driving too much on the street with them and giving them too short of a life. Did you drive the old ones on the street and if so, how many miles did you get out of them before they were no good offroad?

Re: Goodyear Wrangler MT/R w/ Kevlar?

I took them off while I'm out of town and the wife is driving it around, but here are a couple more I snagged before I removed them.

New pics look sick man!!! Any idea of what type of gas mileage you getting with the new tis vs. The stock tires?

So those tires fit with no lift or mods?

Have you taken them off road yet? Any reports in sand or mud?

Re: Goodyear Wrangler MT/R w/ Kevlar?

Haven't measured the mileage yet. EVIC was showing 11mpg but that was mostly city plus a trail so it's not apples to apples. No lift, just QL. Regarding traction, I haven't hit mud yet, just a trail but they did great as expected. I discovered the annoying and startling bump stop in offroad 2...startled me when I was getting a loud clunk when going over small bumps. Put it in or1 and they went away.
