Question Got a flat while traveling - should I try for home (250 miles) on the stock spare?

First of all, I searched the forum but not exhaustively, as I'm traveling and on a schedule. So, apologies if this has been asked and answered.

I have a 2012 Overland Summit, 20" wheels, stock Forteras and "full size" spare (Kumho - slightly taller tire it seems). 25,500 miles on the car and the other three tires.

I blew out my right front tire today - Amex roadside assistance quickly replaced with the spare.

The very nice fellow who replaced the tire thought I could get home to Philadelphia (250+ miles) on the spare. It would be all 55+ MPH highway driving on serious roads (US 29, I-66, 495 Capital Beltway, I-95)

Thoughts? Should I be trying to source a new Fortera (and hoping I didn't damage the rim) here in Charlottesville, VA?

Thanks in advance.

I'd do it. It's a regular tire, not a mini-spare, correct?

If steering is good, i would drive on it...if not, rotate the rears to the front and go

Thanks, guys. Yes, a regular tire. Slightly taller and narrower than the Forteras, on an 18" wheel. Steering and feel seem fine (only had it up to 45 mph since the swap).

Re: Got a flat while traveling - should I try for home (250 miles) on the stock spare

The tire you have is a "full size" spare with similar capacity characteristics to the regular tires on the four corners. It's slightly narrower, but otherwise approximately the same diameter. No problem driving home with it...or towing with it or...

Heck, I was about 2hrs down a trail when I got a flat. Used the spare to back track the trail and drive 60-some miles home. So the full size spare should be just fine for typical street driving.

Re: Got a flat while traveling - should I try for home (250 miles) on the stock spare

as long as the rolling diameter is the same it doesnt matter what size rim. ie 265/50R20
is the same a 295/45R20, 265/60R18, 245/70R17 all these can be used as the rolling diameter is within mm's
its when you miss match rolling diameters that diffs and transfers then bind up and potentially overheat and destroy themselves, along with scrubbing out tires real fast.

a quick google gives the answers to those that want to check there spares against the other 4 http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php...et2=20#content

OEM tire diameter is ~ 30.6". The "full size" spare is equivalent.
