Re: Grand Cherokee Recall - Brake Booster

Stopped by the local dealer today and got on their waiting list. No parts available yet, no part number assigned to the shield either. It seems to be a moisture/cold temperture situation.

Re: Grand Cherokee Recall - Brake Booster

I got mine recently too.
Called my dealer and also asked about the P04 recall for reprogramming the brake ECU as I have experienced the noted issue.

They said they are waiting on parts from Chrysler.
Being as I am in the 'Great White North" (Bob & Doug McKenzie) I'm willing to bet they won't even perform the required 'tests', but just replace everything.

Suspect Corning grease would as well... the rustoleum lasted almost 20 years. A surprising number of gremlins hang out near the jeep grounds.
Apply NoLox to all grounds and battery cables and never worry about them again.

Re: Grand Cherokee Recall - Brake Booster

My brakes recently failed with the garage claiming that it was the brake booster and master cylinder head - they charged $1000! I have no idea if my problem is related to the recall or not. I have a 2011 Grand Cherokee. But I am going to find out!

Re: Grand Cherokee Recall - Brake Booster

Had the booster recall done yesterday. I'm not sure if they did the shield and the booster or just the shield. I noticed right away that the pedal is firmer at start up.

Re: Grand Cherokee Recall - Brake Booster

If you haven't had this performed yet go do it!

I had a complete brake failure last week with my newborn in the Jeep. I lost complete control of the brakes the pedal was stuck firmly in the up position.

Had to control the Jeep off the road using the emergency brake. If another car was in front of me I would have rear ended it or gone into a really deep ditch.

I assumed the Jeep was fine because I just bought it 2 weeks ago from a Jeep dealership. It is a 2011 Overland. Dealership replaced the brake booster and installed the shield.

Re: Grand Cherokee Recall - Brake Booster

Just got it done. Got the anti corrosion shield and was out in a half hour. Awesome service from my dealership. And while I was there, they scheduled me for the next recall on my list, passenger sun visor wiring

Re: Grand Cherokee Recall - Brake Booster

Is this the shield that is installed for the recall?

No, there's a black high density foam or styrofoam sleeve that goes around the brake booster itself. Your brake booster isn't even in your picture... it's behind that panel with the hood seal gasket on top.

Yep... I know. I took a picture of the booster, but didn't post because it seemed obvius there was no protection on it. Worse yet, according to Jeep's recall page, my VIN shows this recall as COMPLETE?! Perhaps this is bad news then... because I see no shield on there? Did the previous owner or a mechanic remove it? Unlikely... what seems more likely is a dealer just pencil whipped it.

My red BRAKE warning light is also illuminated on the dash. Hopefully it's a failure related to lack of this shield from the recall and will be fixed, because I am at 142K miles... clearly out of warranty.

EDIT: Scratch that. I went out and felt around/double checked. The styrofoam shield does not cover the front of the booster as I had imagined, but only the sides, back to where it meets the firewall. I guess I will continue my search of why the brake system has a malfunction light. Here's to hoping this free coupon I have at the dealer for a diagnostic system check can figure it out...

Re: Grand Cherokee Recall - Brake Booster

Part of me wants to say it's there but it's really hard to tell for sure. I'm basing that on how the raised seam looks halfway back on the booster. If you have to take it in for the brake MIL then ask them to point it out and describe it to you.
