Has anyone played with the Tow/Haul Swutch on 5.7??

I tried it today (while in "Sport" mode) and it sure gives the thing an aggressive feel. Any reason not to use it if not in tow?

Speaking of which, do any of the JG WK2 owners have the "FlexFuel" badging? I was out in No VA for lunch today and saw one with that on the right corner of the liftgate. Looked like a Laredo if memory serves. Hadn't seen that before.

Not on the rental WK2 Laredo I'm driving, and I haven't seen it on any of the ones in the lots up here in NY.

My window sticker says Flex Fuel Vehicle, but I do not have any special badge on the back.

Tow/Haul holds fourth for too long, I don't recommend it for highway speeds over 50+mph but it's a blast on onramps, etc.

Interesting since when I tow I'll be running well over 50 mph for hundreds of miles at a time so I assume your comment is based on fuel economy and not that it will hurt anything (which it won't).

BTW, you've all read your manuals to understand what Tow/Haul mode actually does, right

Quote:
5.7L Engine
On vehicles equipped with the 5.7L engine, use of ERS (or TOW/HAUL mode) also enables an additional underdrive gear which is not normally used during through gear accelerations. This additional gear improves vehicle performance and cooling capability when towing a trailer on certain grades. ERS 1, 2, and 3 are underdrive gears; ERS 4 is direct drive. ERS 5 (Overdrive) is the same as the normal 4th gear. When in the DRIVE position in first through fourth gear, the first tap to the left (-) will display the ERS designation for the current gear (the transmission will not downshift). For example, if you are in DRIVE and are in third (direct) gear, when you tap the shift lever one time to the left (-), the display will show 4 (ERS 4 is direct gear). Another tap to the left (-) will shift the transmission down to ERS 3 (the added underdrive gear). When in the DRIVE position in fifth gear, the first tap to the left (-) will downshift the transmission and display 5 (ERS 5 is the same as normal fourth gear). Another tip to the left (-) will shift the transmission down to ERS 4 (direct gear).

WARNING!
Do not downshift for additional engine braking on a slippery surface. The drive wheels could lose their grip and the vehicle could skid.

Screen Display 1 2 3 4 5* D
Actual Gear(s) Allowed 1 1-2 1-3 1-4 1-5 1-5

* Applies to vehicles equipped with 5.7L engines only.

NOTE: To select the proper gear position for maximum deceleration (engine braking), move the shift lever to the left D(-) and hold it there. The transmission will shift to the range from which the vehicle can best be slowed down.
Seems pretty obvious why it feels stronger

My rental had it. Damn thing had a hard time getting 17 MPG @ 70 MPH

You are correct but the tow haul can hold 4th for way too long and can be unpredictable at higher speeds because you never know when it plans to upshift into the proper gear (5th). So if you're 'playing' with it and not using it for it's intention, play with it on the side streets, it's usage is much more calculable

And yes, I know what it does and it's intention thankyouverymuch.

Re: Has anyone played with the Tow/Haul Swutch on 5.7??

Tow/Haul and ERS (shifter mode) is very handy for mountain driving. The V-8 power roars up the inclines and uses engine braking on descents. It does take a little practice to remember to shift the automatic transmission, and to learn to use the gearing effectively.

It does lock out ECO/MDS and the second overdrive gear, which is desirable for my use cases. I don't tow long distances so gas mileage is not a concern for me.

ERS is also fun for showing off the Hemi acceleration to avoid the downshift lag when in Drive mode.
