Re: Has anyone used the Bilstein 5100s?

Thanks whoever told me to order from partsgeek.. ordered 5100's yesterday morning ground shipping and here they are already

I actually want my ride quality back more to a stock feeling.. this super hard setup is sucking the 5100's with stock springs should be the ticket..

Also - sway bars. Very aggressive to completely remove them but I dig it. I am researching quick sway disconnects rather than remove them as I like having them when I'm on the road. Tons of curvy highway / hilly roads here that sways are nice. Wondering what your mindset was here
The only thing I like better than horsepower is suspension. Independent suspension has a lot of benefits, rides great and handles great. I've taken my sway bars off my last few vehicles and they never go back on. If it handles poorly I'm more likely to just upgrade the suspension to get more dampening and possible slightly stiffer spring rate but I never use sway bars. Rides better without them. Yes you might get a bit of body roll if you take turns too fast but as long as you drive at speed limits you're fine (at least in 95% of places) NYC is a little intense that it the only place I've ever driven I think I actually might keep them on. I lived in LA for years and south florida and never had sway bars on my tacoma. The problem with sway bars is it inhibits articulation and more importunely the ability to use suspension travel. when your off road or even hitting pot holes on the street your sway bars fight your suspension. Your IFS and IRS just yank on that sway bar and that is something I don't like.

What springs are you using?

From what I found out, the load leveling uses a heavier shock and softer spring than the standard suspension. So if you add a regular shock, or 5100, with the load leveling spring, the rear will actually sag. He other end of that is if you add regular springs to the load leveling shocks, you will get some lift. So long story short, if you switch from load leveling shocks to any other that are standard style, you will have to replace the springs as well. The shocks could be a source for a lift though when combined with standard springs.
You could probably get away with replacing nivomats with OME, either with standard duty or HD which have more dampening and putting .75" Tj spacers on. Going from Nivomats to bilstein 5100s in the rear probably isn't a good idea as the bilsteins don't have all that much dampening. I didn't like them on the rear, it was still to bouncy but the superior dampening of the OME made my back end very stable. OME also makes rears for the Nivomat upper shock mounts and they would not have to be replaced as they would when going to 5100s

I really like where your head is at, however I wonder why you wouldn't want to go the route of a sway disconnect, vs completely removing sways all together.

One) Because I NEVER use sway bars. Two) Because I don't even think they make them for the WK2

If I kept them on it would only be a matter of time before they broke anyways with the way I drive off road. Also my vehicle with OME rear shocks and bistein 5100s up front feels more stable than it did stock with sway bars on especially in the back and it's most noticable when drifting and sliding the back around. I've even been considering getting the OME Heavy Duty dampening rear shocks to stiffen it up even more. Ride quality may suffer a tad but I like a lot of dampening for stability and bottoming resistance.

Re: Has anyone used the Bilstein 5100s?

I have noticed a difference in ride quality - particularly when traveling over dips (or long/large bumps) in the road at highway speeds. I don't bounce up nearly as much when coming out of the dip.

Does anyone know the part numbers for the front bilstein 5100s and where you got them? I can't seem to find anything for a 2016 limited.

If you browse through this thread (actually read it) all the part numbers are there , or you can google it and find them

Thanks for your insightful response. Reading the thread or using google never occurred to me. I did find some part numbers on an attachment that I couldn't read on my phone before, but it doesn't specify the year of the vehicle the parts were installed on. If you (actually read) my post, I was trying to find information on a 2016. I thought the purpose of a forum was to share information among fellow enthusiasts, if you can help that's great, if you can't why bother responding? Sorry if you were irritated by my inquiry.

Well the suspension is the same from 11-16 unless of course you have ql or load leveling shocks.

Re: Has anyone used the Bilstein 5100s?

Thanks, I might be wrong, but some suspension components did change for 2016. RRO an OME lifts (2.5") are only available for '11-'15 as far as I can tell. I called RRO and they said the control arm design changed for 2016, but didn't say anything about the front strut mounts which is why I was looking into the 5100s for leveling until something more substantial is available.

I also searched Bilstein
