Help me pick new tires

It's time to replace the stock Goodyears on my WK2. I'm torn between the Nitto G2 and the Goodyear Duratrac. I really like the aggressive look of the Duratrac, but I'd have to by new wheels (I have 20" on an Overland Summit, and the Duratracs don't come in 265/50/20). That would probably double the cost. I don't mind that, but it is a consideration. The stock wheels are showing some wear. With the G2's I can keep the same wheels, and get a more aggressive look. While we don't get a real winter here in South Texas, we do head to the mountains of New Mexico each winter and having a snow rating like the Duratrac would be nice for that, but I don't know if it is worth it for just a once a year trip (2 weeks out of 52). How are the G2's in the snow? Which is better for everyday driving and with occasional off-roading (maybe once a month or every two months)? I've searched the forum, but there is just WAY too much info to sort through and I can't find a real side by side comparison or review. Any advice would help.

Re: Help me pick new tires

Have you tried www.tirerack.com? Even if you don't want to buy tires from them their customer reviews and ratings are really helpful and you can compare tires side-by-side like that. Using their site I decided staying with the stock Michelin Latitudes on my '14 Limited was the best all around option for me when I needed tires at 50,000 miles. I found them cheaper elsewhere online ($150 each with free shipping!) but did a lot of reading on Tire Rack about what was out there to fit mine.

I like the round ones.
In particular 265/50-VR20 Yokahama Parada X cost $98.70/ea (simpletire.com) w/XL load rating. XL gives a bit more sidewall support and better handling.

Re: Help me pick new tires

Unfortunately, Tire Rack does carry Nitto so there are no reviews for them. The reviews on the Duratracs are pretty good, but that really doesn't help me with eliminating one or the other.

As to the Yokas, I don't want a regular passenger car tire. I don't do a lot of off-roading (only when I head to the "ranch"), but when I do I want a tire that can handle it.

Re: Help me pick new tires

275-55-20's in the Duratrac should fit.

A lot of people on the forum are running Cooper Zeon LTZ's in that size with no trouble.

Re: Help me pick new tires

Ok if you like the Goodyear then take a look at the Toyo Open Country RT & AT II tires. Toyo is offering a 500mi trial. IMO tread grooves running axially (Nitto G2 grooves horiz) around the tire makes a better off road tread for dirt and mud. You gotta decide do you want more aggressive tread and 40k miles or longer wear and 60k miles. Good luck and let us know whatcha get.

Re: Help me pick new tires

I'm happy with my new GY Adventure ATs in 275 55 r 20. Just did a 750 km trip to work...nice on the hiway...no more noise than the Forterras....and did a little off-roading because my passenger is a geo-tracker...performed well there too.
