Re: How about reliability of QL(air suspension)

Warranty is a great if it breaks. Loss of time and a vehicle however isn't, lol. Plus getting stranded because the suspension drops to the bump stops a NIGHTMARE. Hopefully it will not prove to be problematic.

Yes they do offer it, but it is "aftermarket" type warranty, not backed by Chrysler/Jeep Australia.

In fact, a family associate of mine actually owns one of the larger aftermarket warranty companies in my state, and he prides himself that in 30 odd years of trading, he has paid precisely ONE, yes ONE, warranty claim.
There is just so many loopholes in the warranties that they'll never pay a claim that you would actually bother to claim, if you know what i mean?

And agree with above poster, no matter how much warranty is available, being left stranded is actually worse than the breakdown itself in my view.
I also hope the system is durable

On the plus side, it is quite likely that the system, being fully sealed, will have a longer service life than other, more common, "open to atmosphere systems", if by only because the closed loop systems use Nitrogen, not humid atmosphere, limiting degradation of valves and seals from water ingress.

Regardless, all of these systems are a nightmare when it all goes wrong, and it's not something I'd cherish out of the warranty period!
I'm still not terribly worried. I knew going in that it would be more expensive in the long run than a traditional suspension. Even with the last round of dealer closures, it isn't like I'm going to be forever and a day away from somebody who can fix it. Worst case, I have it flatbedded to somebody who knows what to do about it.

The main difference, IMO, is that when the air suspension goes out, you know it and you can't hide it. When a traditional suspension wears out, you can keep on going, since it died by installments over the years and you never quite noticed. Either way it isn't performing up to spec, but with the air portion of the QL, you do indeed have to fix it.

You make a very valid point Techno!
Imagine if every vehicle on the road that has dangerous worn out shocks became undrivable..... there'd be a LOT less traffic!

I think most people with older vehicles have absolutely no clue just how bad their suspension is. Once upon a time I had a 1992 Saturn SL2, I replaced the struts at about 160,000 miles. The difference was absolutely shocking.

LOL - me too Scott!

And really truly, most factory shocks don't even last the warranty period. In fact, most are well past their best by 40k miles.

Re: How about reliability of QL(air suspension)

The airsuspension replaces the springs. I believe we still have shocks that will slowly wear out and that will need replacing....

Unhappy Re: How about reliability of QL(air suspension)

My Laredo with QL acted up for the first time tonight, weather and traffic were bad and I was going slow in traffic. I hit the QL button once to raise it a little, for the first time it seemed to take a long time to rise. I noticed the light was flashing but nothing was happening. I hit the down button and the idicator went out and it said normal ride height. Push level 1 again and same thing, no lift. Got to a parking lot and shut off engine and heard a rush of air like someone letting air out of an old innertube. Tried to raise it again and it would only go up to normal height. Made a lot of air rushing sounds that I haven't heard before. Went inside a store and came out some time later and tried it again, this time it went up to level 1 but more slowly then usual. Then the message showed saying it was overheated.

I just left it alone and drove home, tried it again before shutting it off but it seemed to operate in reverse. Instead of dropping the front first it dropped the rear and I could see my headlights were pointing higher, then the front came down. Frustrated I shut it off and went inside.

It's going to the dealer tomorrow but after 1500 miles it's frustrating to think that with no offroad and basically very little use of the QL I'm having some kind of issue already.

Oh man! Keep us posted. Between QL and shudder issues, I'm nervous....
